Hip dysplasia double nappy advice

WhenZogateSuperworm · 18/04/2019 20:12

We have been told by a paediatrician to put 2 nappies on DD because she had a mild hip dysplasia- she needs another scan in a few weeks and they are hoping it will have corrected itself.

My question is- has anyone done this with a washable nappy ontop of a disposable? Or am I better just doing 2 disposables? I am keen to limit the amount of disposables I am a) buying and b) throwing away so thought about putting a washable as the second one as it can be worn all day- however will this pad her out too much?

I’m no expert on hip dysplasia but I know a well boosted cloth nappy is good at holding the hips at optimal position. You could do this with no disposable nappies at all!

Yes I had read that cloth were good for hip position- however I can’t afford to buy multiplie of them to be able to ditch the disposables all together- they are £15 each!

Oh, ok.

Hi. There is a fabulous Facebook support group for hip dysplasia called my hippy baby UK & Ireland ddh support group (hip dysplasia). If you are not a member already I would recommend joining. My DD was born with the condition and it's a great place to get support and answers. Good luck!

I would think it would work, but equally can you not keep the top disposable one on all day or 'rotate' it so it becomes the bottom one at next change. Unless the first nappy leaks it should stay clean. I hope it sorts it for you. There were some concerns for DD but we were lucky it corrected itself by his scan.

Washables are good and thick.
I think buying 2 and using 1 each day on top of a disposable is a good idea. You are not increasing the number of disposables you use and assuming you don't have a big leak you could use the same washable all day

LuckyKitty13 · 18/04/2019 20:26

You can get washables second hand (either used but clean, or prewashed but never used), on eBay or preloved/gumtree. That's where I bought mine and barely cost me anything - approx £1-3 per nappy all in all.

How about terry squares? They're very cheap (from £2.50ish each) and fab for hip placement, much better than shaped cloth or disposables.

Terries do need wraps (motherease airflow are unbeatable) which cost about £13 each. You'd manage fine FT with just 2 or 3 wraps though. A fleece liner is always good, they can be bought but I always just used cut up fleece blankets.

The second disposable needs to be the next size up to fit over so can’t then use it as the bottom nappy.

I will look at the Facebook group thanks!

No need for scary nappy pins with terries anymore BTW, these work a treat.
