Possible chicken pox before Disneyland

Hi guys I'm new here so not sure if I'm posting correctly but I really need to ask this. My DD and DS came into close contact with a toddler that had chicken pox today.. were flying to Disney land Paris in 15 days. I rubbed antibac over their hands and arms and put them straight in the bath. What are the chances we'll be ok? They've been around children in their school before and never caught them and also I never caught them as a child despite sharing a bed with my sister who had bad chicken pox. I'm just sooo nervous it's our first ever holiday together

It’s an airborne virus I believe, but hand washing can help when people cough or sneeze into their hand, day, and then touch things.

But it’s a waiting game really. No one can say they will or they won’t get chicken pox. You could try and get them vaccinated pronto?

HalfBloodPrincess · 17/04/2019 18:30

Unfortunately, chicken pox is a 7-14 day incubation period so it’s likely you’re not going to have a definite answer until the day before your holiday.
Here’s hoping that if they have caught it that it shows sooner rather than later

Nogodsnomasters · 17/04/2019 18:30

Unfortunately it's a viral infection so antibac will have no affect but as pp said washing hands properly can't hurt. The virus incubates for 14 days so there is every chance they could break out in spots right before the holiday, watch out for cold symptoms in the few days before hand.

dementedpixie · 17/04/2019 18:31

Was the contact today or previously? Did they have active chicken pox at the time? It is airborne and can be passed on by being in the same room for 15 minutes or by being in very close proximity. Incubation period is 10-21 days but contagious period is 1-2 days before spots and until they crust over

LampHat · 17/04/2019 18:36

You can get vaccinated after exposure. I’d say it’s worth getting them done!

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/04/2019 18:39

If they were with the child for 15 mins indoors I would get them vaccinated.

laurasaurxo · 17/04/2019 18:40

I live in the UK so not sure how to go about chicken pox vaccination

Boots do it. I would be more worried about you getting it as an adult-it's meant to be quite awful. Hope you have all avoided it and get to Disney x

GailTheFish · 17/04/2019 18:46

Some Superdrugs do it too - definitely worth a look. Cost about £65 per vaccination and they need two doses to be effective if I remember correctly.

laurasaurxo · 17/04/2019 21:52

Ok I've googled some, and it says the vaccine would still be effective I'd done within the first 3 days of exposure. Wondering if you have to book way in advance for an appointment or its just a drop in

The contact was about ten mins outside (he is a neighbours child I dont know and was playing outside his back door and saw my daughter talking to him and playing with his toys). He already had spots with cream on but I didn't get a good look if they were scabbed over or not. Cant even tell u my anxiety guyssss

Get the vaccination as soon as possible!

Superdrug let you book online

Search for your local clinic and it will bring up the online calendar so you can see how quickly you can get an appointment

laurasaurxo · 18/04/2019 09:14

Okay guys update: I've managed to get a vaccine appointment for all 3 of us tomorrow at 9 am so fingers crossed I've done everything I can to save our holiday, thank u all so much for your help

Antibac gel will do nothing. CP is caused by a virus, not bacteria, so antibac gel is useless - a good old fashioned scrub of hands with soap and warm water would have been better. In any case it's airborne so could be breathed in. It's just a waiting game I'm afraid. Mine were in close contact several times as toddlers before they eventually caught it in school. There's no way of telling.
