I'm at my wits end. Dd2(7) has threadworms for the nth time. Every few weeks she is getting them. We've all been treated and again at the 2 week point to catch any symptomless worms - dd complains her bottom hurts. Occasionally ds2 complains of a sore bum but usually it's because he hasn't wiped properly. And whereas with him we can't see worms, with dd we can see them wriggling around.

I've stripped beds and washed on 90°. Vacuumed mattresses and bedrooms, wiped over switches, handles. Deep cleaned the bathroom. Supervising hand washing and cutting nails short.

The only difference is that dd is still in pull-ups for nighttime wetting (she's been referred back to the continence clinic).

GP response when we asked last time was to buy meds over the counter. But at what point do we need to consider that taking worm medicine so frequently just isn't right. There doesn't seem to be a 'if you're still suffering after dose 2/3/4/5, see your gp. And all our gp tells us is that they don't prescribe meds for threadworms do go to the pharmacy - they're not actually listening to the problem, which is how often is too often for threadworms and what have we missed?

Is she picking them up from a close source outside of the family? School, friends, relatives. It certainly sounds like it could be he case particularly because your other child doesn’t seem to get them.

Mine have had them 3 times but 2-3 years apart each time so we managed to get rid each time (for a while anyway). I just kept on top of cleaning like you have been doing.

Joys of parenting aye!

They say 50% of under 10yo children have threadworms at any one time.

I think some children just react worse to the itching. One of mine used to be in unbearable agony with them, another used to sleep through it, but had a very distinctive wriggle in their sleep and the third never seemed to notice even when I could see the worms having a veritable party.

I suggest you worm them regularly like a cat. Grin
