Ongoing cough and asthma diagnosis

DS,7, has always been prone to a chesty cough during the winter, this year has been no exception. About 3 weeks ago I took him to the GP as he had,had a cough for about 3 weeks with no sign of improvement. GP felt it was probably a viral cough and diagnosed asthma at the same time. Recommended that we give him the inhaler 4 times a day for a few days and then start using it as required. Fast forward to today and his cough seems no better and he is still getting quite breathless when he does exercise.

Is this cough just going to continue until the warmer weather if it's a result of the asthma?
Would you be going back to the gp about the cough? Ongoing need for the inhaler?

back to gp. you need to find the right treatment for dc.
what type is the inhaler? salbutamol (fast acting reliever) or a steroid one (preventer)?

don't fuck about with breathing.

Thanks. I think my gut was telling me the same thing I just hate to feel I'm wasting their time.
He's got a blue inhaler at the moment, the salbutamol one but it's effectiveness seems to quite short lived

Did the GP check his oxygen levels?

Did he listen to his chest?

My son gets viral wheeze which is similar to asthma and sometimes uses a blue/ventolin inhaler sometimes when he has a cold.

Perhaps see if you can speak to GP again?

It may be he needs to use the inhaler more regularly just for the colds duration.

Does he have a spacer? If not he may not be the ventolin otherwise.

Not be 'getting' the ventolin Hmm

He could have bronchitis. In young children it's called 'walking bronchitis'. It's basically chronic bronchitis which needs a long dose of antibiotics.

It sounds like he could do with a preventer too. No point just treating the symptoms.

I agree he needs his oxygen checked and a second opinion.
