Hi guys,

Looking at the picture should I go A&E or no? I was cutting her nails when she jolted and i pressed down on the clippers Sad

She cried for 30 secs then calmed with a cuddle, I washed out with saline solution put germolene on the wound after my pharmacists advice, she seemed on the fence with hospital though.

I feel sick with whats happened and really teary for my poor baby girl, she seems fine not really fussed. Iv seen alot of posts with nail clipper accidents but i feel this one might be more serious Confused

Thanks xxx

Unless you have taken the entire finger tip off I think it will be fine

Canshopwillshop · 11/04/2019 18:44

If it’s stopped bleeding and she’s settled then I’m sure it will be fine. Hugs to you, I remember catching my DD’s finger doing that.

starbrightnight · 11/04/2019 18:45

Can't see a picture. I hope she's ok. It doesn't sound like she's screaming in pain so I imagine no real damage has occurred.

There used to be special round-ended safety nail scissors for babies. Do they not do them any more?

carrieivie · 11/04/2019 18:50

Thank so much for the replies! I have technically taken off some of her finger tip Confused but your right i shes not distressed or anything so i need to chill .... so hard too first time mum syndrome me thinks.

Ps found out why i cant post its because im a new member xxx

I haven't cut my 10 yr olds nails for 9.5 years following a similar incident.
DH has to do them all (well, DS does them and DH trims any bits that are sharp these days)

carrieivie · 11/04/2019 18:52

@starbrightnight they do I actually have some in my lil baby grooming kit but thought id go with the mini baby nail clippers instead face palm*

Steri strip and a mitt?
And in future babies nails are very easy to just peel off!!
Welcome to the world of dm guilt!

INeedNewShoes · 11/04/2019 18:59

Been there, done that. DD was 4 months when I decided to give the Tommee Tippee nail clippers in our set a whirl.

Her thumb bled for an hour!

Horrible, horrible. I was horrified! She was fine though Smile

BelulahBlanca · 11/04/2019 19:01

I use the scissors- they seems less severe to me.

I used to nibble them off.

MrsMozartMkII · 11/04/2019 19:11

I was the same as Usingmyindoorvoice, as I was petrified of any sort of clippers having once overtrimmed my dog's claws. Gawd that was thirty years ago and it still makes my innards flip over.

Nofunkingworriesmate · 11/04/2019 19:13

I did the same to my newborn
No lasting damage xxx

carrieivie · 11/04/2019 22:52

@INeedNewShoes yup! It was the tommee tippy nails clippers i use never again will be sticking with filing them down for a while and then work my way back up to the nail scissors x
