Silent Reflux in 5 year old

Both my daughters had silent reflux as babies, my eldest has grown out of it but my youngest still complains of "gunk" in her mouth when going to sleep. She sleeps on masses of pillows to try and stop it happening but she's still struggling.

Her Grandfather had an operation to treat his reflux when he was a baby so its obviously in their genes.

I don't want her to take medicine unless she has to, I'm hoping there's things I can do to help her with it by altering her diet but I've no idea where to begin. Has anyone got any experience of this? Any advice at all welcome, I feel like I'm letting her down by not sorting it ☹

Pillows in the bed can actually make it worse. The whole head of the bed needs to be raised, ideally put some books under the feet of the bed.Acidic food will make it worse so no tomatoes, citrus and chocolate. Try and eat 3 hours before bedtime too.

Well, go and see your GP first of all, try and get a referral to ENT or gastro specialist. It needs to be looked at properly, I think.

I've a doctors appointment for Wednesday. But it's great to get personal experiences too.

Thank you for the tips @somethingsosimple I wasn't aware chocolate could make it worse or citrus I'll check her puddings. Also re the bed tilt, I did that as a baby but had forgotten!
