DD has had a cough now going into month 4.. I'm at breaking point. During this period we've been back and forth to drs I've lost count how many times..
First few times they would listen to her breathing said everything is fine and sent us off... after was that she must have a viral infection which could take up to 3 weeks to clear.. after that, she must be catching viral infection one after another give it 2 weeks and come back..
went back prescribed inhaler (brown) which made her WORSE..
Went back again prescribed a different inhaler (blue), same reaction..
since have gone back and got an X-ray.. results came back normal.
During all this we've: given our hamster to our friend incase it was an allergy to dander, kept her off nursery for 2 weeks to make sure she wasn't catching viral infection one after another.
No vapour rub/medicine/cough syrup is working

I AM AT BREAKING POINT please advise!!! SadSadSad
I don't know what my next step should be I can't just be here waiting for it to heal in time as some have suggested??!

Have they done a blood test of her white cell count to see if she is fighting an infection? I'm not a medic but DS had one when he had a persistant cough. His went away after about 5 months with no clue what was causing it.

MamaLLL · 06/04/2019 18:58

@polarpig drs have not mentioned about any blood tests, is it something I have to suggest?
They know how long it's been so I'd thought they would take it a bit more seriously Sad
Hopefully we have the same situation and it is the end of this nightmare soon...

My daughter had a cough for 10 months - it was a tic xx

A blood test will tell them if her white blood cell count is normal or if she is fighting an infection. I'm not a medic so no doubt there are other tests they could do and it might not be relevant to do a blood test.

This is happening to us too!! We are heading into month 4 with the same thing. Docs have all said virus. It’s driving me crazy. We suspected asthma but he isn’t coughing at night and apparently that’s more common with asthma. I’m waiting until he’s had at least two weeks without snot so I know it isn’t related to a cold and then back we go again.
Sigh. Sympathy.

MamaLLL · 07/04/2019 12:22

@boble1 a tic? I haven't come across that before associated with coughing. Can you tell me more? How did you go about diagnosing it? Thanks x

MamaLLL · 07/04/2019 12:23

@polarpig thanks I'm gonna bring it up when I next take her drs.. giving it a week as we've had 2 nights of less coughing now... but we've had these days before and it goes back to square 1 again x

@KTD27 it's really a shame on them, mine is night coughing so she's not had a good nights sleep in months and I can't bare it any longer. I didn't even know it was possible for these things to linger for so long, she's my first so I'm not too experienced with baby illnesses. Hope your LO has a speedy recovery and that IT IS just a virus and you're seeing the end of it! X

@MamaLLL

Hi, my daughter had a virus, then started coughing and throat clearing.

She said her throat was tickly, so she had to cough.

Many visits to the GP, chest x ray, inhalors. Of course, she never coughed during our consultation with the GP!

Finally referred to the local paed at the hospital who said she has a tic.

Never coughed at night time, only during waking hours.

It was 10 months of constant coughing. I wish you luck xx
