Am I being silly?

I could really do with some advice. My son is nine weeks old and from about week two he became really fussy and fidgety and unable to sleep for longer than an hour without waking himself up and having terrible wind. We tried lots of different bottles (we were formula feeding and breastfeeding), using gripe water, using Intercol, feeding while sitting up, winding throughout the feeding and making sure we kept him up right after feeding for 30 mins. I knew it wasn’t just colic so at our six week GP appointment I spoke to the doctor about the possibility of having a lactose intolerance. She dismissed the idea very quickly without talking me through all of the symptoms, she told me that it was just a normal seven week old baby and it would just go away and I was on lucky. She also suggested tried potty training him something I’m not going to do. And make me feel very very guilty for not solely breastfeeding. I went away really angry. My partner and I decided that evening that we would swap his formula to lactose free to see what happens, I also stopped breastfeeding him but expressed to make sure I didn’t dry up. He changed straight away he was so much happier he slept better we started seeing a different child it was so lovely. He still had quite bad wind but was starting to sleep the bigger chunks and it was just so much more chatty. In the last five days he’s got a lot more fussy again and he isn’t sleeping for much longer then an hour and hour and a half at night. He’s finding it hard to sleep lying down as well. He has really painful wind and when he’s farting he is screaming. He is nowhere near like he was before but I’m worried that it’s not lactose intolerance. I went back to the GP today, made sure I saw a different doctor, and he examined my son and said that he didn’t have excessive wind or a swollen stomach, that it didn’t sound like he did have a lactose intolerance but was glad that he was a lot better than he used to be. He suggested that I continue with the LactoFree milk because it might just be his stomach getting used to the new formula. We have been giving him this formula for two weeks now. I don’t know what to do I feel like there is more to this and maybe he has silent reflux or a cows milk protein allergy. But at the same time I’m wondering am I being a bit fussy myself and thinking there’s something wrong when actually he’s just being a baby, he is my first Child. I’ve read so many posts on here of people who have gone to the doctors and finally got a diagnosis for cows milk protein allergy or silent reflux or lactose intolerance but are there people who have tried to get a diagnosis for and just found out that it was just wind or colic?

Sounds like my DS who had silent reflux. You have my sympathies. It was a dark time.

Symptoms for us were: waking up 30 mins to an hour after feeding, making horrible grunting noises, being uncomfortable lying down, and a strong pained cry like no other baby I've ever heard. 😢

Luckily we had a GP who understood silent reflux. Lots don't even seem to admit it exists. He was prescribed infant gavisgon and Omeprazole and was a different child.

Holding him up right for 30 minutes after every feed also helped.

Eventually grew out of it altogether by 5 months.

Thank you sleepinglemon.

I will continue to fight his corner, I know it's more than just a bit of wind.
