Molluscum Contagiosum

Hi there,

I was looking to see if anyone else was currently going through the nightmare that is Molluscum Contagiosum! My son has had it for 6 months and it has spread life wild fire all over his body. He has it mostly on his torso but also legs, arms, back and neck. The spots do look like they are going away (from when I have read online) but I am not convinced.

My husband and I are doing everything we can to stop it spreading but also to stop it being passed onto our other son. We change my sons bedding and pajamas every day and change his vest every morning and evening. He now wears onsies that button up the front to avoid having to pull any contaminated clothing over his face.

We have used Molludab and I think it has worked as after use all his spots swelled up, burst and crusted over but I think new ones are appearing.

How on earth do you know when the end is near ??????

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
B

There’s a wash in wash off soap they sorts this in a week

To be honest, I don't think there is much you can do but wait for it to run its course. We were told that using KOH etc can result in scarring so we didn't bother. DD mainly had it on her legs and it cleared up after around 10 months. Her spots were very sore at times though so I do sympathise Sad It is not nice.

Ignore those who say you can’t get rid of them - you can

Bath the kids wash the soap on and leave for a min then wash off

Works wonders

We used apple cider vinegar (the real one with "the mother") on a q tip and really worked it on the spot and let it soak in. Then I covered each individual spot (or cluster) with plasters so it doesn't transfer to fabrics. It does sting slightly but really effective. I ended up catching it and soaked cotton pads in apple cider vinegar and left them on the areas for 10 minutes (be careful not to cause a chemical burn!). Obviously just q tip with kids.
I also stopped having a bath and only showered because I think it spreads in water?? Same goes for the loofah or washcloth.

It is awful and I still look at new spots suspiciously 6 months on ha ha. Just keep them covered with plasters and they shouldn't spread!

The doctors told us that there wasn't anything you could do, we went private and got treatment for it, should be the last option though as it's strong stuff for the skin, but you can get rid

My 12 year has had this recently, I took him to the docs for who diagnosed this and said there wasn't much to be done. They were on his chest and armpit area and one on his thigh. He also had some warts on his elbow. We talked about having them frozen off but they have eventually gone on their own - the warts too. To be fair, I think the placing of them meant they started to rub against his clothing and came off naturally. But I'm watching this thread in case he gets more!

bridgetosomewhere · 03/04/2019 18:28

My two have both had it. I'm eaxh case they just kept getting worse until we popped each one (squeezed wth tweezers and got the white bit out) then dabbed tea tree oil on and a wee plaster.

It's not fun for them but one evening of misery bribed with candy floss was well worth it.

My sons got so big that when they burst on their own before we took action, they left holes! None of them have scarred tho and once we popped them they didn't come back.

We also gave them both thuja tablets.

We've been using this cream and it is working. Most of them have gone on my DS. He still has a few stubborn ones though.

DD1 had it for over a year but when it eventually went it disappeared surprisingly quickly. DS got it but it seems to have disappeared quicker for him, we knew he'd get it because he has eczema so his skin is more vulnerable to infection. DD2 didn't get it but she's my super healthy child who never gets anything!

I also used apple cider vinegar on my daughter (after trying expensive specialist remedies). She had it on the backs of her legs. Soaked the top of a cotton bud with the vinegar - held on with a plaster over night. In the morning the spot had changed to a dark colour and I was able to squeeze the white bit out. Rubbed diprobase on after. Also added the vinegar to the bath. Cleared up with a month. I had a dermatologist appointment booked before I started this treatment and the consultant was impressed how quickly her skin had cleared up. No scars / marks.

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 03/04/2019 18:45

DS had this. The doctor said to just leave it and it would disappear which is exactly what happened after about prob about 9 months start to finish. It didn't bother him, just looked a bit unsightly and I couldn't be doing with treating every night for weeks when he was perfectly ok with it.

Sunonthepatio · 03/04/2019 19:44

I got rid of a persistent skin infection with hibiscrub for a week (used as a shower gel) followed by dermal.

Shostakobitch · 03/04/2019 19:55

Our paediatrician said it would go away by itself but I didn't want my oldest DS to be covered so I popped 1-2 spots a day, squeezed the white bit out, put tea tree on and put a plaster over it. It was gone within 2 weeks.
