Dd is 9.
Her friends wear their hair down at school most days.
Dr on the other hand has her hair scraped into a ponytail (sometimes with a plait)
She has had nits about 7 times now since she started school aged 5.
As soon as I detect them beds are changed, the whole house is treated. I sit and pick out the eggs. I bin her old brushes. Then retreat after the 7 days.
We use anti nit shampoo and deterrent spray.
Not comb 1 a month.

She had them in the summer. Got rid of them.
She got them in January/ February. Got rid of them.
Just checked her head today and they are back. Its likly i may have missed an eggSad
I am spending a fortune on new brushes, the treatment, constant washings.
And it's never ending.
What am I doing wrong?
Anyone anytips?

Comb, comb and comb every day to two days for about a fortnight as long as at the end of that fortnight you’re combing clear them comb once a week to keep on top of it. Nitty gritty comb and cheap conditioner wipe comb on a white towel after every tiny section of hair.

Tea tree oil
Hair braided
Comb every week when clear
Not solution should kill eggs and lice - however I did this recently and DD was still crawling when I combed her two days later

Unless all the parents treat at the same time you won’t get rid of them completely.

Ask school to send a not advice letter out

School website comment these letters only go out IF nits are reported in their child’s class

There is no need to bin brushes or to wash everything in the house. 2 treatments is not enough as the life cycle is 3 weeks. Wet combing with conditioner every few days for 3 weeks should get them. The problem is that she may be getting reinfected at school.

Thank you everyone.
Dementedpixie does that mean I should be using 3 treatments every 7 days if their lifecycle is 3 weeks?

Her 2 best friends- who are both lovely girls- always have their hair down most days but 1 is always scratching her head. So I do think even when I get her head nit free, she is being reinfected.
I think i might speak to the school, it couldn't hurt.
I feel so daft I am struggling to deal with this.

www.chc.org/for-parents/ this page describes the life cycle and the drawback of treating on day 1 and day 8 as the treatments aren't great at killing the eggs
