Hi all, hope I'm posting in the right place. I apologise if this seems a silly question, but is it normal for a toddler (16 months) to go from laying down to standing by rolling on to front and then pushing up so that hes standing on hands and feet, with his bottom in the air (almost like downward facing dog yoga pose) then going to standing position? Is this normal? Only noticed recently, just looked so strange! I do tend to worry alot, so hopefully I'm worrying over nothing. How do your Los of similar age go from laying down to standing? Thanks for any help.

They all find their own ways to do things! Sounds normal to me!

Thank you canny! I'm such a worrier. Worried it was some sort of mobility issue or something. He can be a little wobbly on feet still, but he has only been walking two months or so. Hopefully all normal then! Hmm

That’s how I would get up as an adult?! Why is it strange? Surely fairly safe as he’s keeping his balance.

They are say toddlers have the best posture because they do things the way we were intended to rather than learning bad habits as adults like bedding their knees when picking things up from the floor.

DS did this for a while when he was first walking, looks ungainly but gets the job done

Nicecupofcoco · 22/03/2019 16:39

Hi Georgia, thanks! Yeah I think I'm just worrying over nothing. I think just because I'd only recently noticed it, had me wondering if it was indicator of anything else! Google told me about something called a gowler manoeuvre, which can mean a muscle weakness, and that was sililar way of standing, it just worried me! I know, I shouldn't Google!! Thank you for your help though! Smile

I think the gowler manuever would only be an indicator of a problem in older kids! You 100% have nothing to worry about at this point!

Thank you canny so much! Smile

That’s how my 16mth DS stands up 🙂 Very cute and very typical.

ElyElyOy · 24/03/2019 21:59

Gowler movement is normal in young toddlers, it’s older toddlers/children that it becomes a possible reason to investigate children further.

Thanks all for the reassurance! Smile
