Teething, diarrhoea and nappy rash

Warning TMI!

DD is cutting her 2 top front teeth. She has had explosive rancid watery yellow poo with fat glob-lets in it for 2 days. It's burning her bum and she has started to get a nappy rash. Changing bum often, using zinc bum cream, regular baths and airing to help.

She seems generally ok in herself, wants extra cuddles but no temperature and is still crawling/playing as normal.

Is this normal? Has anyone experienced this due to teething? Anything I can do to help reduce the horrid poos? I've just been giving her formula, cooled boiled water and no solids for the past 24 hours.

Thanks x

Metonium I think it's spelled! In a yellow box, this is the best stuff for nappy rash. My child has an amber teething anklet on constantly, not sure if that's help but can't hurt! Only the bugs bunny teeth caused nappies as you describe, the rest not so bad (yet!). But what you described is normal.

We always had horrific sludgy nappies when DS was teething. After the unsettled nights for no apparent reason, that was usually what finally alerted us to it being teeth. Apparently they produce loads more saliva which they then swallow and affects the consistency of poos. It will stop when the teeth arrive! We just fed him as normal and, when younger, gave him a wooden spoon to chew on to try and help break the gum. And calpol. Don’t be afraid to use calpol!

Yep we always used to have shocking nappies with all four dc. They used to smell like rancid milk utterly rank and dreadful nappy rash. As pp said metanium is your friend, if that doesn't work the gp can give you something stronger.
Ibuprofen is much better for teething as it's an anti inflammatory so helps with sore swollen gums.
Thanks for youteething is rubbish.

@frankiefirstyear that's the cream I got....it stinks!

@AutumnGlitterBall that's a great idea about the wooden spoon.

Thanks I feel a lot better now I know it's normal Smile

I like the smell of metonium...it smells medicinal!

We had various teething toys but I think he liked the spoon because the handle was narrow enough to direct to a specific spot, especially once we started to get side and back teeth in. They look so cute with their tiny teeth but getting them is such hard work - for everyone!

Both my DC had diarrhea when they were teething which led to bad nappy rash. I found Metanium cream to be good.
