My ds(12) has painful joints but the consultant has more or less ruled out arthritis. She is not sure what else it could be - anyone got any ideas?

Fibromyalgia or ehler danlos?
Is there any stress or anxiety?

handmademitlove · 14/03/2019 15:32

No stress or anxiety that I am aware of. The consultant said the test for connective tissue disorders was negative though he is hypermobile. He is generally quite active though has been diagnosed also with a growth plate disorder which isn't helping..

What does fibromyalgia look like in children? I only know older adults with it.

www.dundee.ac.uk/news/2017/new-comic-tells-the-story-of-fibromyalgia-.php there's a child in this.

Ds2's paed characterizes his pain more like a response to anxiety as opposed to giving a diagnosis. Which is fine. He likes warmth and ibuprofen for it.

Also stretching between every round of fortnite. And winding down with no screens for an hour or two before bed.

crmo? (a form of chronic osteomyelitis) not specifically in the joints but the pain is often difficult to pin point.

My DD was diagnosed with fibromyalgia aged 12. She had quite a bit of joint pain particularly in the colder weather, fatigue and problems with sleep and concentration.

Paed who diagnosed it recommended that she keep up with exercise as much as she could. She is now 22 and has always been very active- dancing, gym etc which has definitely helped. She was originally prescribed amitriptyline but doesn't take it any more. She has found a number of different supplements helpful.

His pain is generally on using the joints in question. Will see what the next appointment brings. Thank you all.

That article was very interesting @greenelephantscarf

DD was diagnosed with this when she was 12, after extensive tests, and after being told that we were not to rule out that idea that it might be a tumour. It was a very worrying time for us, but our local children's hospital were brilliant and pulled out all the stops to reach a diagnosis.

She was even referred to the oncology department at Birmingham children's hospital, but fortunately the oncology team came back with the CRMO diagnosis. It took 3 months from being referred to reach this conclusion BTW. DD manages it with painkillers.
