Glasses, how do I get DS to keep them on?!

DS is 4 after a school vision test which he failed, we were advised to go to the options which we have and DS now needs to wear glasses on a daily basis all the time.

One small issue, despite DS choosing the glasses he loved, in a colour he loved, with pictures of his favourite animals on them...the novelty has since worn off.

DS now refuses to wear them. Any tips on getting him to keep them on or just even wear them at all?!

I told my son at same age that the optitions have a competition for the best glasses wearer. I said if you wear them for a full day you get a prize, and then a week and then a month. I said I was given a password to fill.in the info on line and they would be posting out the prizes when you won. He took to the idea really well and just got in the habit of wearing them. After a while he forgot why I think.

Go back to optom, get the fit checked to make sure they are comfortable etc.

Do school know your DS should be wearing his specs? Perhaps his teacher can support you and your child with this.

Reward chart for wearing his specs?

Also the reason he didn't want to wear them in school was because he was afraid people wouldn't know who he was in class.

Thank you all for your replies.

They were only fitted 2 weeks ago, but I'll take him back. Perhaps I can get the lively option in on the game too.

I'll also try a reward chart, when it comes to school I have asked them, but understandingly they have said there isn't much they can do when he refuses, they can't force them on to him 😣

Bribery is pretty much the way to go. Oh and no screen time without them and mean it! It takes a while for their eyes to adjust to the glasses so he won't see more clearly immediately. But at this age you need their cooperation. At the weekend bribe to get them on and then make sure you're doing something distracting like running around, going to the park or a favourite activity so he is distracted and then slowly they become more habitual.
Oh but also don't make them a battle stay calm if he refuses to wear them but also calmly stick to any rules you've made regarding them. Good luck.

DS loves stickers, so today I have resorted to giving him a sticker for every time the clocks chimes (so an hour) he has had his glasses on...

They've been on since 7am!! I may however need to order a wholesale amount of stickers 🙈 his jumper is also covered so washing is going to be fun when I have to peel them all off, but I don't care lol as long as he has them on!!
