Can't get temp down, headache advice

insti · 08/03/2019 14:08

My son is 10 and has had a high temp between 38-39.9C for over a day now. Also he has a headache he can't seem to get rid off. He feels cold in himself and shivering. I've given nurofen and calpol. Last night I stayed with him as he was so restless in bed. Talking and fidgety. He does have a bit of a cold starting.

There isn't a rash.

Any advice?

Sounds like a cold/flu.

Yes, call your doctor!

Managed to get an appointment with the nurse Practitioner, she gave him a thorough looking over and said it's a bad cold. Feel better knowing it's nothing more serious.

You say he is 10. Is he a big 10 ? You may be able to give a bigger dose of paracetamol (eg: 750mg rather than 500mg). Do you know how much he weighs or could you weigh him ?

He's not big for his age.

Loads of this type of virus going around atm. My ten year old son has just recovered, all u can do it use paracetamol/calpol to bring temp down and loads of fluids so he doesn't get dehydrated
My ten month old baby has it now
