Ds has just turned 7

Since December he's having pretty much constant stomach ache which is always worse when he's eating

He saw the gp who felt his stomach and thought he was constipated and gave him lactulose

End jan we went back and ds had lost 2 kilos, stomach still sore but didn't feel constipated

Just weighed him and he's lost another 2 kilos and now is on the 2nd percentile for weight whereas in December he was 75th

In general he is very pale, constantly complains of stomach pains, eating less as it's hurting, says he's always itchy everywhere but no visible rash, poo seems to go between loose to rabbit droppings

We're back with the gp next week but I'm getting concerned as it's been going on a while

Possibly coeliac? DS2 also lost weight, didn’t grow for a year, had a horrible rash, dark circles and reflux/stomach pains daily. Within a week of cutting out gluten he was a different child, and has pretty much caught up height wise with his friends. It’s such a worry, isn’t it?

Liver? Because of the itchiness?

Ask them to do bloods and faecal calprotectin test. This will tell if there's any inflammation in the colon.

If the dr doesn't do anything, see another one. Loosing so much weight isn't good for anyone, let alone a small child.

is ask for a referral to a paediatric gastroenterologist. could be so many things

Fraggle84 · 07/03/2019 18:02

I think the doctor just wants to keep an eye on him but I'm at the point where I feel we've waited long enough and he's still having the same symptoms and weight loss

It's interesting someone mentioned dark circles around his eyes as a mum at school commented on them today

There's thyroid and diabetes in my family so I'd like those ruled out

Would asking for a paed referral and full bloods be within reason?

Certainly full bloods won't do any harm, and will give an idea of what could be going on. The dark circles round the eyes could be dehydration, especially if he's had a bout of diarrhoea.
