Does tonsillitis need a dr?

Hi, I have a 3 year old with huge pus streaked tonsils and a temp of 37.8. I'd normally be at the drs asap but she doesn't seem at all ill in herself, in fact more crazy than ever! She's had the temp since this morning, noticed the tonsils Tea time. She's been on the go all day and not complained at all.
If she's like this in the morning does she really need the drs or would I be safe just watching her closely? I have calpol once, it bought temp down to 37.2, not given it since as I want her to calm down not run around feeling too great!

I would make an appointment if you can get one easily

Thanks for your reply! Yes I can easily make one - we are very lucky with a good rural gp - you're right- better safe than sorry I guess! It's just a pain going just to be told it's a virus!

If it's bacterial and doesn't get treated it can cause an infection to set into the heart valves and cause permanent damage. Google Rheumatic heart disease

Yes, Tonsillitis can either be bacterial or viral. Bacterial needs antibiotics or she will feel very ill after a while. Viral- they don't give you anything for.

Yes because it could be strep and need treatment. Wouldn’t as an adult, usually clears up in 10 days or so, but wouldn’t risk it for a little one.
Anti-bs are over used but sometimes they are necessary.

Whenever I've taken my little brother to get it sorted if it's bacterial they had given him penicillin for I think a 20ish days. But viral they only ever gave him a spray for the back of his throat and said "wait it out"

Thanks all for the advice. Went straight in to drs on an urgent appointment this morning, temp was 36.8 so fine, suspected viral and told to wait it out. She's still bonkers so obviously feeling well!
