GERD in 7 year old and a gluten free diet?

Just wondering if anyone else has had their older child suffer from GERD and successfully introduced a gluten free diet?

DS is 7yo and has been suffering GERD symptoms for the last few months: feeling sick daily (but not actually being sick), feeling like a lump in his throat, burning in his chest. It happens daily and lasts no longer than 5 minutes but is becoming enough to bother him.

I took him to the GP today who suggested we try eliminating gluten from his diet for 4 weeks to see if it makes a difference. I am in two minds as to whether this is the "answer" or not, although to be honest I'm not sure what the "answer" is so I'm willing to try it. I've scoured the internet this evening for information but I'm not coming up with much so it would be helpful to hear from anyone who is in the same boat and what your experiences are.

Thanks!

My son, he is an adult now , reduced his gluten intake because of acid reflux, his younger brother was diagnosed with coeliac disease as a toddler, my other son who is a teen also has a problem with acid reflux if he eats too much gluten. They have both been tested for CD but tests were negative for both of them.

And yes, restricting gluten has helped both of them.

My 2yo has dairy soya and egg allergy. We tried oat milk for 4 weeks and had a reaction. Once eliminated it settled but the GERD did not and continued to get worse until every night he was screaming. We've cut gluten out and there is a big difference. Appears that the gluten in the oat milk triggered hyper sensitivity

He's been tested for coeliac and it came back negative. However my mum and her siblings /nieces and nephews and coeliac so I think he has a strong intolerance

This is really interesting, thank you. It seems there is a link between reflux and gluten but it’s quite hard to find any concrete information so it’s helpful to hear your experiences.

I am going to try it, I think it may be easier than it seems, hopefully it will make a difference - it’s worth a try anyway!

Thanks again for sharing :)
