Eczema, allergy, teething or something else??

My daughter is 7 months and from around 4 months has had small eczema patches on her body which have then turned larger areas. Classic dry, red itchy patches behind knees, elbows and any creases. They were being treated with emolients but her skin broke and got infected so she was on antibiotics.
Although the skin on her body is almost healed, her neck is so raw as well as a patch on her face which never really goes.
Weaning has taken a step back as we are having to go through foods one by one again incase it's that.
She also has on and off bouts of diarrhoea which smells very sour and has a tiny bit of mucous in it.
This is seems to come on with every change of food or some days without any food at all.
She is under the doctor who said they don't like doing allergy tests on babies but will do if it continues as it might be her formula. She has been on the same formula since birth.

No teeth but lots of drool

Really appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this or if I should ask for an allergy test sooner.
Its awful seeing her so unhappy and my toddler picks up on her distress so home life is chaotic at the moment Sad

What skin products do you use on her? I would go back to water- no wipes, no soaps, no shampoo, no bubble bath etc. I presume you're already using non-bio sensitive washing powder on her clothes.

Thanks for replying. We were given dermol bath so use that twice a week. Yes using boots sensitive skin washing powder

Cow's milk allergy? Gluten intolerance?

Hitsnooze · 01/03/2019 20:55

Cows milk allergy is a possibility the doctor spoke about previously. Would they do an allergy test before giving diary free formula or try it and see?
Hadn't thought of gluten. I'll have a look into that thanks

Based on other posts they seem very reluctant to prescribe dairy free formula in some areas, but I don't know if they'd test for it first. If it started at four months, what changed at that time?

Hitsnooze · 01/03/2019 21:36

It only appearing at 4 months is one of the reasons I thought it might not be cows milk allergy as before this she was quite a content baby.

She's been really itchy today and all she's had is porridge which she's been fine with.

I'm hoping it's teething related as at least it'll settle soon!

Fingers crossed. When did you start to wean?

Hitsnooze · 01/03/2019 22:21

About a week before she turned 6 months

For those pesky allergy test I would suggest you do both conventional and the chinese herbal allergy test as well as theirs is incredibly comprehensive.

Singlepops · 01/03/2019 22:34

You should also consider an organic herbal wash like the black soap shower gel and combine with cocoa butter moisturizer make sure it is authentic too. Palmers isn't bad but you really want something from the source.

My 6 month old has eczema and after being mishandled by a variety of GPs I asked to be referred them a specialist paediatric dermatologist. It's been great. Top lines were:
Babies with eczema should not have baths more item than once a month until they are aged one. It strips their skin (even just water) of the natural coating they need for protection. Beyond one it can be once a week.

Physiogel AI (bought online without prescription) is his recommended body lotion and unlike Cetraben et al which the GPs kept giving us prescriptions for, it need only be applied once or twice a day, instead of at every nappy change.

100% cotton clothing only

Since following this (with a prescription hydrocortisone and Eumovate) my baby's skin has transformed.

Thank you both all. I really appreciate the advice. I'm going to push for an allergy test I think. She's flared up again and is clawing at her neck and head

My guiding motto for my kids in regards to their health is simple research everything the GP's tell you and double up on everything they tell you and seek outside help quick. Good Luck.
