Any idea what these spots are?

DD is 22 months, no known allergies, happy and healthy in herself, had had chicken pox, showing no signs of being unwell.
Over the last 3 weeks she has been randomly getting what look like insect bites concentrated around her left side/waist, inside and around her nappy line. One or two on her lower leg but nowhere else. She gets one or two new ones every few days. They don’t appear over night, usually in the afternoon.
She wears cloth nappies (disposables overnight) and has done for over a year. No change in washing powder. No pets in the house. No one else in the house with bites.

If i’m Honest i’m Not convinced they are bites, but everyone else seems to think so including the GP (although annoyingly there were no fresh ones when we went - she occasionally goes a few days without any new ones)
They take about a week to fade. Oh and they are very itchy, and when there are only a day or two old they have a red ring around them about 1cm diameter.

Have attached a couple of photos. The really angry one was taken after a lot of scratching in the bath - they don’t usually look so big.

Any ideas? I’m driving myself mad checking the house for bugs and hot washing all the bedding etc.

Oh and I have quite bad health anxiety so please be gentle if you have anything scary to suggest!

Thank you

Hives or bites for sure. Hives can be caused by orange juice or other mild food allergies, she may have just developed an allergy even without trying something knew. I'd keep a food diary and keep an eye for repeat foods on the days she breaks out in them, especially considering she's getting them in the afternoon suggests something she's eaten that morning or lunch time not bed bugs.

Molluscum - they eventually go on their own. There’s nothing the gp can give as I think they are viral.
Don’t pop them - the fluid inside is highly contagious-
Ds used to get them a lot, I would stick a small plaster over any that looked like they were About to burst. I also used to put couple drops tea tree oil in the bath.

The ones pictured on the nhs link look older than yours -
my ds ones always looked like the ones in your photos first.

Suzie81 · 28/02/2019 05:27

Not convinced it's Molluscum. Molluscum spots don't fade in a few days like she describes.

insancerre · 28/02/2019 06:47

They do look like bites

dementedpixie · 28/02/2019 06:50

Molluscum doesn't come up as quickly as that or fade as quickly so I don't think it's that

AnxiousAgainAndAgain · 28/02/2019 06:53

Speaking as someone with chronic hives, these do not look like hives at all. I think they look more like bites but I'm not medically trained.

RebeccaCloud9 · 28/02/2019 06:56

They definitely don't look like molluscum.

hannah1992 · 28/02/2019 07:10

Do you have any pets?

My dd2 had a few of these a few months ago I had no idea what they were until my friend (we spent time at her house for coffees etc after taking the older ones to school) told me her dog had fleas. My dd1 had a few too.

Looks exactly like those type of bites

AllAboutTheGin · 28/02/2019 07:10

Thanks for the replies. I don’t think it’s molloscum as her brother has it and it doesn’t look at all like it, however I wouldn’t be surprised if she does catch it from him at some point!
Will try a food diary, thanks. But isn’t it unusual that they only appear in one area of her body? Maybe a contact allergy more likely?
I’ve Realised that I always change her nappy on the rug in the lounge (lazy... given up on change mat etc) maybe an allergy to the wool or could there be bugs living in the rug? The idea of that makes me itch all over!

No, we have no pets. Plus these have been appearing over the course of 3 weeks, one or two every day or so.

Could be bedbugs which don’t affect everyone. Eg we had bedbugs in ds’s room 😭😷 but it was only when dh slept in there did we realise - he reacted to the bites.

The bugs probably came from secondhand books or a friend who’d been to America.

Best time to look for them is first thing in the morning. I found one behind a picture frame above the bed! Paid to have the room fumigated and that solved the issue. Luckily we tumble dried most things which kept the problem down.

AllAboutTheGin · 28/02/2019 07:16

Ask, when I said they take about a week to fade. They take about a week to lose the bump/head/itchiness, but she is left with lots of flat red scars which are not really fading yet

AllAboutTheGin · 28/02/2019 07:22

I’m pretty certain it’s not bad bugs. She only gets one or max two at a time, I’m e inspected her bed and her cot mattress is plastic side up (one side is waterproof plastic). Plus she sleeps in two layers and a gro bag - surely they can’t bite through all that?! I have hot washed al bedding inc sleeping bags

Iggly · 28/02/2019 07:26

Ah ok then no - they only go for exposed skin I think

MegaBat · 28/02/2019 07:33

Personally, I'd bin your rug

picklemepopcorn · 28/02/2019 07:42

Stop using the rug for nappy changes and see what happens.

AllAboutTheGin · 28/02/2019 07:48

Defo moving nappy changes for the time being! So that sounds plausible then 🤔 wouldn’t we get bitten on our feet though? It really is only her that has bites

OP posts:
MegaBat · 28/02/2019 08:01

No not necessarily. You're laying her down and there's that prolonged contact and who knows? Maybe they prefer nibbling on her
