When should stomach ache be seen by GP?

Hi
I would love advice please as DS is not prone to stomach ache but has been out of sorts (no temperature but sleeping a lot and not hungry for dinner) and for three days has had stomach ache. (He’s 8). He just woke with it which is very unlike him to wake in the night.

Would you take him to the GP? I don’t know enough about the appendix and might take him in just to rule it out?

Appendix would be my only real concern, although that's usually agony. I don't think anyone can really say what the "correct" amount of time is - always follow your gut.

So DS had similar, lots of tummy pains over the last couple of years. I saw the gp about it after about 3-4.months (it was intermittent). They advised if its not localised, and more around the belly button its probably inflammation of the lymph nodes in the tummy. Has yours had a cold or virus in the last few months?

Hmmmm it doesn't sound usual. However, personally I wouldn't take for a non distinct tummy ache yet. I would treat it like a bug and give pain relief. However if it was causing ongoing pain or there were other concerning symptons then call 111. (Possible reasons for pain.... anxiety about going back to school, constipation, bug, appendix, throat problem....)

From my own experience, appendicitis would tend to have real doubled over agony/vomiting/temperature. The ache moves position as well. It doesn't sound like appendicitis to me but the usual caveat of trust your instincts, don't let an internet stranger diagnose etc.

Thank you so much and this sounds reassuring. After I posted it woke him throughout the night so given a bit worse I think I might see the gp today hopefully. But hopefully isn’t appendicitis.
Thank you !

Even greater peace of mind now as GP too said not looking like appendicitis and tummy soft. Thank you all so much and I probably could have just listened to your reassurance but did get more worried when he got increasingly upset. It seems to have settled now
