Severe chicken pox

I'm going out of my mind!
My 22 month old has chicken pox and it is just terrible. They are everywhere we are on day 4 now...he even has what looks like a spot on his eye ball! He has hundreds! I will ring the gp in the morning but does anyone have any words of reassurance? I keep panicking about complications etc and don't want to Google and scare myself more!
He's had piriton and Calpol, lots of baths in bicarb, aveeno cream and calamine and germolene for the worst spots. I just feel so helpless! My eldest had it 2 weeks ago and it wasn't anywhere near as bad!

With one in the eyes I would highly recommend taking your child to the gp. Dd had it at a similar age. Also very badly with one in her eye. The gp sent me to Moorfields eye hospital to get it checked out.

Yes I just noticed his eye in the bath this evening it looked bloodshot in a bit of the white but he was too distressed to let me look properly. I'm just so worried I feel sick.

I personally would ring 111 if you are concerned about chicken pox on the eyes. I know that it is a big concern with shingles so maybe the same with chicken pox

Yes definitely ring the out of hours. We had dd who was similar but doesn’t sound quite as severe as yours does now. We got her to the gp early on when I thought it was getting severe and they prescribed antivirals which thankfully stopped anymore coming out and seemed to limit them. I wouldn’t be leaving it until tomorrow if they’re in the eyes tbh as I wouldn’t want to risk anything damaging sight

I'm sure you know, OP, but don't give Ibuprofen based medicine during chicken pox, stick to paracetamol. Hope you LB feels better soon :)

Chicken pox can be very serious. I really hope you have got help by now and your ds is having anti viral medication.
My ds was very poorly with cp. It is awful to see them suffer.

Antivirals aren't given as standard for chicken pox in the UK endofthelinefinally. I agree that OP should get her DS checked over due to the spots near his eyes, but from what she's said it sounds like he has lots of spots but no indication of any complications - she doesn't say he has a high fever or anything.

In the OP the spot is described as being on the eyeball, not near the eyes. I would have expected that to be taken very seriously due to the risk of ulceration and scarring.
However, hopefully the OP has taken advice and her ds is being looked after.

Thanks all! I rang 111 they said be seen within 12 hours. He was sleeping so peacefully I decided to ring the gp first thing and took him straight up there. The patch on his eyeball looked much better this morning and the gp showed me some frankly horrendous pictures of chicken pox eyes and said if it looks like this then come back. He has 4 in his eyelids but she said they aren't too bad at the moment. No I haven't given ibuprofen. Thanks for the advice!
