Anyone have a toddler with ear infections any tips and reassurance it will get better?!

I’m doing calpol and ibrprofen alternately and he’s on amoxicillin as fever was for a good few days. I’ve also tilted his mattress slightly.

He woke every 45 mins last night 2 nights and not napping and screaming as soon as sees cot. He’s doing 15 min naps (usually hours!) It’s like he’s got SA coz of the illness I can’t go out of sight. He usually sleeps all night and happily and idenpendaly for naps. He’s so miserable :( and I’m so tired!

Any tips?

Does he have dwarfism by any chance? DD was diagnosed in utero with the condition and she frequently does suffer from bad ear infections as a result. We are followed by a ENT doctor at the hospital downtown.

Ds had ear infections roughly every 10-14 days from 10 weeks through to 20 months (when 1st lot of grommets went in). Then from 3 years to 3.6years (between 1st lot of grommets coming out and second lot going in).

Hugs help with his ear against you (warm) but also a hot water bottle (check not too hot), tipping the mattress up slightly at the head end can help a little. Calpol/Ibroprofen regularly, and if a lot of wax suddenly starts coming out of the ear, especially if they then suddenly seem free from pain, then the ear drum may have ruptured, in which case you need to see a GP, who should swab the wax (ds had antibiotic resistant infection on one occasion) and prescribe antibiotics.
Probably avoid baths (or put cotton wool in his ears) and definitely no hair washing until better.

Would you consider having him co sleep with you until he's better? It's not going to be a perfect sleep but it's better than going into his room every 45 mins all night. I know that misery, you have my sympathy x
