Head bump and vomiting 2 month old

I lifted my baby off the changing mat and accidentally hit his head off the edge of the shelf above. He cried out in pain. I cuddled and comforted him and his cries settled a bit. I gave him to his daddy for a cuddle and my baby then vomited once but quite a volume (he isn't a sicky baby, but when he does vomit, it's always a lot).
He immediately stopped crying after being sick (again, this is very typical of him) and was back to his normal cheerful self. He's since been smiling away, shuffling and wriggling around and feeding normally (I'm feeding him right now 10 minutes after the injury).
There was a small red mark on the side of his head but it's gone now (10 minutes later).
I checked his temperature, pupil response and have done some singing and dancing with him to see if he is just behaving normally.
111 told us to go to A & E, but I'm not sure whether to keep an eye on him over the next few hours.
Part of me thinks I need to take him to A&E right now as he's had a head injury and vomited, but another part of me thinks it wasn't a hard bump and he's presenting as absolutely normal now, and we'll just be told to go home and keep an eye on him.
Help please.

A&E! Especially if that's what 111 told you to do!!!

Karigan195 · 15/02/2019 11:17

Why are you asking on here? Go straight to a&e.

We're going now

Yeah, I'd go to A&E. He's so little and if there's anything wrong and he suddenly goes down hill, you'll want to be in the hospital. Better safe than sorry. With our local 111 service they do attendance checks too for little ones who've had an accident and have been advised A&E. It's seen as a safeguarding issue if people ignore that advice.

Sorry, cross post! Hope he's OK and you're not waiting too long.

I called them on the way and they said that it was completely normal for babies to vomit up to three times after a head bump, but they were happy to look at him if I wanted them to. I did want them to, and brought him in. He was absolutely fine, smiling at everyone, but I don't regret for a minute bringing him in.
Probably one of my worst birthdays ever. Terrible start to my 30s. I feel so guilty, even though he's fine.

It’s common for young children to vomit after a shock. It’s only a worry if they are consistently vomiting or showing other signs of concussion

It’s better to be safe than sorry. Glad he’s fine and that’s the main thing.
