Help needed with son’s rash, any ideas?

My 13 year old Ds is recovering from a virus, cough, nausea, temperature. He’s back at school and feeling much better apart from this rash which has appeared on his hip over the last couple of days. It’s painful and getting bigger. Any ideas what it might be?

I've had shingles-looked nothing like that.

If you call 111 do they do ooh drs appointments? Or do you have a walk in GP clinic? A dr needs to see it I think, poor boy, it looks sore

CoperCabana · 17/02/2019 12:25

I think he needs to see a doctor. Would be different if one of the nurses had been able to give a definitive diagnosis.

Foodylicious · 17/02/2019 12:25

Does not look anything like shingles so I suspect you can rule that out.

It looks more like a bad friction burn.

Is it itchy or it sore?

Foodylicious · 17/02/2019 12:27

I know its not always easy to tell from pictures, but although it does seem to have spread a bit, it looks paler and less angry

CoperCabana · 17/02/2019 12:27

It looks a bit like something I had once which I think was a bone bruise. It was very sore and kind of looked like a rash. Hence why I was asking if he had knocked it.

Curlyhairisacurse · 17/02/2019 12:29

We have seen three nurses over the last couple of days at the walk in centre and they didn’t have a clue what it could be. It’s really difficult to get to see the GP unless it’s a true life threatening emergency. I could take him back to the walk in centre or wait until tomorrow and push to see our GP.

It’s very sore to touch, my first thought was he had knocked it but he’s adamant he didn’t. The dark patch at the top is where it is starting to scab over, when I enlarge the picture I can see tiny spots which I assume are scabbing as they are healing.

It’s such a worry for you. Maybe see how it is tomorrow and take it from there. Hope you get him sorted.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 17/02/2019 17:41

That's ridiculous that three nurses can't diagnose it but they won't let an actual doctor come and look at it instead.

Have you been given a cream? Steroids or anti fungal? Something

Curlyhairisacurse · 17/02/2019 18:25

He’s been given nothing, told to give him Calpol and try antihistamines.

And how is he now? I hope it is clearing!

How is he doing OP?
