Gp or wait and see? Squelchy ear

8yo said on Sunday that he had a sore ear. He then later had a sore tummy, a sore head, a sore leg... You get the jist. He doesn't like the idea of school, fine once he's there, so often has sore things on a Sunday. I normally pay it no attention and we carry on and go to school! He's a generally healthy boy and hasn't had a sick day for over a year.

This evening he called me upstairs after he'd gone to bed and said he suddenly couldn't hear properly. I got him to close one ear by pressing it closed, talked, then did the other ear. He told me which ear he couldn't hear properly with. So I pressed gently on his ear to double check and when I moved my finger away it sounded squelchy! Had a look with a torch and it doesn't look gunky or anything. Shouldn't be water in his ear as he showered before school so no recent bath or anything and nothing came when I got him to lay on his side for a while

He's fine in himself and hasn't had an ear infection since he was about 3. Should I just leave it as there doesn't seem to be classic signs of ear infection? They don't generally do antibiotics or anything for ear infections now anyway do they? Or get it checked just in case due to the squelchy sound and half deafness?!

Anyone else's child had a squelchy ear that never came to anything? Me and dh can't agree! I say wait and see. He says gp.
