Weird thing I had 55 years ago! What was it? Any ideas?

When i was a toddler I developed a spot on my lower back in the middle, which grew larger and larger over a few weeks and which then disppeared. It didn't stretch so I couldn't lean forwards and was v painful when I tried to do so.

I remember mum asking the gp about it, he may have given her a cream for it but I'm really not sure.

It's not terribly important, I've never had anything like it since. It's one of those things which pops into my head with a question mark. There' sno one to ask except you lot, parents both dead, brother wouldn't know.

A boil.

I thoughdt that, but mum would have recognised a boil and so would never have wasted the doctor's time if it had been. Apparently, it got to about 5ins in diameter. I've just remembered that I could feel it - there was a tiny head in the centre and the skin around it was rough.

Maybe a cyst?

fleshmarketclose · 02/02/2019 18:23

A carbuncle perhaps?

Mumsnut · 02/02/2019 18:26

Osteomyelitis?

When you say lower back, was it around the top of the bottom crack? If so, it could have been a pilonidal cyst? Not sure if small children develop them, but my DH has one a few years ago and it was really horrid!

Sorry, lost the thread!

epimum, I remember it being at about waist level, slap in the middle, but I could easily be mistaken.

I'll look up osteomyelitis and carbuncles. Not sure about a cyst - I have developed a fe small cysts on my left leg but they are just lumps whereas this childhood thing was different. I'll check it out.
