Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good book for tips and advice for parents whose children are fussy eaters? A book that has worked for you?

My 3 year old seems only to be getting worse with age and meal times are starting to upset me!

Thanks in advance x

First bite: how we learn to eat, by Bee Wilson

If I remember right it basically says: eat meals together, serve a variety of foods, enjoy your own food, but don't comment at all on whether or not they eat.

If you want to encourage child to eat more veg: let child pick one to work on, let's say carrot. Once a day (not at meal time) offer little bit of carrot. If they taste it, even a lick, they get a sticker, if not, no big deal. It takes 10-20 actual tastes to learn to like a new food. In my experience it can take even more, but we totally got there in the end.

It also helps to get them involved in menu planning, shopping and cooking. Playing with food is also a first step towards liking it as they are getting used to the smell, texture etc. of a food.

A lot of that is probably obvious, but it's what I remember off the top of my head. I try to keep my focus on teaching my kids how to enjoy food, not getting them to eat dinner.

Thanks Kabs :)

I kinda already know the above and the basics- just none of that has worked! Looking for a new take on it all x

Yeah, it's just the basic stuff. I find it useful to re-read when we have setbacks, at it reminds me that I'm already doing the right things. I just have to keep doing them and trust that things will work out.
