My 4 year old has had a cough and cold for a week. Last week he also had a sore throat and high temp and was on antibiotics for a week. He had had these spots on one of his legs for about a week, they are getting more red . At first he just had a cluster of spots but now has more dotted about on one leg only. He’s had chicken pox already badly at 3 months old. Thanks

Are the spots all in one area / all in a line? They look a bit like shingles, especially as he's feeling rough. Are they painful / itchy? Or could possibly be ringworm. If you suspect shingles GP can prescribe something to help it get better a bit faster.

Anyone who has had chickenpox can get shingles. Shingles is when the chickenpox virus reactivates itself - this can happen if you're run down or can just be bad luck. It's the chickenpox virus reactivating itself.

Someone who has never had chickenpox could catch it from someone with shingles, but you don't catch shingles if that makes sense?

Maybe have a look at some pics online. This is the NHS link:

Just got back from doctors and it’s definitely shingles :(

Aw don't worry. It can be sore and itchy and make you feel rough but it's not generally anything to worry about. If he feels up to it he can go to nursery / school etc. as long as the rash can be covered with a plaster / dressing.

Sorry x post!

Thanks so much. It is a bit of a worry as it’s rare in children apparently.xx

Scarlet fever is doing the rounds. Rash feels like sand paper. Look up strawberry tounge and check your childs. My son has just been diagnosed with it

What meds has he been given? Shingles are horrible Sad

You don't need to worry OP. Shingles in children is nothing to be concerned about. My daughter had it age 5 and my niece had it age 7. If you ask around you will find loads of kids who have had it. It's just chicken pox (which lives permanently in the body once you have had it). It improves rapidly with anti virals. It is not very contagious - needs direct contact - so as long as the rash is covered the child can go out.

No medication for the shingles. He’s getting better now, thanks x
