Bath products for bad eczema?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/01/2019 12:19

My 3 yr old adores her bath and loves bubbles but her skin is so sore with eczema and any products I use no matter how 'skin friendly' they claim to be leave her scratching like crazy.
The stuff from the doctor to go in the bath is just oily and doesn't bode well for bubbles.
At the moment she only has 1 bath a week to keep it under control.
Does anyone know of any products that we could try? I'd love to be able to let her bath everyday like her brothers. She especially loves bath bombs and bubble bars and the bath play dough.

Lush is the only non prescription stuff that works with my dds skin. A pain to clean the bath though!

ChilliMum · 23/01/2019 12:25

Your poor dd, i feel your pain as my dd has eczema. I think if the exam is inflamed there aren't any that won't irritate it more unfortunately.

When her eczema was under control we found the burts bees baby bubble bath didn't cause a flair up (although we only bathed her 2/3 a week.

When it was bad we used to use porridge oats in the foot cut off a pair of tights and tied under the hot tap. Makes the water lovely and creamy (like a special bath bomb) and was pretty soothing for the eczema too.

The stuff which makes the bubbles is the problem and dries the skin out (SLS I think). Oilatum made my DD's eczema worse. She uses ZeroAQS which isn't oily (prescription from Dr) and has the occasional bathbomb or bubble bar bath.
DD is nearly 9 and her eczema is well under control now. I think between 2 and 3 was the worst though so I can sympathise.

Child's Farm stuff is quite good. What treatment is she having for her eczema op?

BillywigSting · 23/01/2019 12:30

Child's farm for soap /shampoo, lots and lots of aveeno after the bath, we put the fire on and a soft towel down in front of it and turn it into a little massage. Ds is five and still loves this.

LahLahsBigBand · 23/01/2019 12:33

No soap, which means no bubbles. I am not in UK, so don’t know product names, but we have QV bath oil in the bath and can have one a day without problems with the excema. Similarly QV soap free wash for hand washing etc. maybe instead of bubbles she can have some other special fun bath activity to replace the fun of bubbles?

Lush do bubble bath bars. You just break a bit off and add to the water. My daughters skin has never been better and they smell incredible

Anything by Aveeno

TitsalinaBumSquash · 23/01/2019 12:52

She has from the GP,

Cetriben cream,
Oilatum for the bath,
And a mild steroid cream that we have to mix with the Cetriben when she's scratched it all open.

We did have another giant tube of cream which I've forgotten the name of now, the dr seems to throw so many lotions and creams and ointments at us I've lost track.

Lush doesn't agree with her, all the ones I've tried so far have made her itch. Sad she loves their 'fun' play doh for the bath but it's not worth the night time of her crying whilst we try and stop her opening wounds up from the scratching.

This is amazing for my nieces. It's the only bath product that doesn't set them off that isn't prescription.

There are SLS-free and bicarb-free bubble products but ezcema skin is never going to like daily baths and it will prob be fairer to her to wind down her siblings' baths so she doesn't stand out.

E45 Junior Foaming Bath Milk bubbles and when my ezcema was bad, I was (and am) a big fan of the Earth Friendly Baby range which also has an SLS free bubble bath.

But I can v much relate to your DD, having laid down in a big bath of Radox when my ezcema was really bad only to leap straight out and scratch myself to pieces.

Son has eczema only thing that works is what we get from GP.

Hydromol.

The bath thing does give a bit of bubbles but not much. His emollient cream is fab. His skin is now flawless, he has a bath every evening.
