DD has this cut on her stomach from self harm and still can't stand straight?

DD cut her stomach with a razor blade. She doesn't usually self harm (she is under CAMHS) and this is only the second time in 3 years.

She is happy to be going back to school but the problem is, each time she stands, she can't stand straight and says it feels like it's pulling apart.

It was originally glued but we think it split open a bit, so we went back to see someone at the GP who said they can't reclose the wound as it has been too long and to just keep an eye on it.

She can't stand straight though when she walks so can she not go back yet?

I’d go to a and e tbh

Oh gosh, do you think it requires A&E?

I suggest a moist ointment like polytopic or a stretchy clear dressing like op-site.
Can’t see a&e for this personally, it looks small and shallow. What length is it?

deag · 21/01/2019 16:15

It was very deep, went to walk in, where they glued it. They didn't want to stitch in that location? It's not very long though, maybe 3cm? We have been dressing it with plasters they gave us, but she still says when she stands up, it's painful like a ripping feeling, even when we have dressed it.

I suspect it’s dry, moist ointment by day a clean tub of Vaseline to moisten the scab.

Fairylea · 21/01/2019 17:45

That doesn’t look too happy to me, it looks a bit infected. I’d go to a and e / out of hours and get some advice.

ScienceIsTruth · 21/01/2019 17:50

It looks a bit infected where it's yellowish. I'd see if you can get an appt with your GP first thing in the morning and see what they advise.

There is some oozing on the plaster when we change but we thought it was the scab just trying to form?

I would make an appointment with your practice nurse, and get them to dress it regularly until it is healed - and they can keep an eye on it to try other things if it won;t heal. I'd suggest you need more specialist dressings than you will be abe to get over the counter. I have a long standing abdominal wound and have it dressed every other day by the nurse - that area is very awkward for healing. but you need it kept an eye on - that could be infection, or overgranulation, or there might be some other reason it isn't healing (mine won;t heal because it was also deep and I have a sinus tract (a kind of tunnel shaped extension of the wound) now.

Sounds as if you are being fobbed off a bit. I don't think it is an a and e job, I think it is a badger your practice for practice nurse appt tomorrow and get a treatment plan for it, and ask if you need referral to wound specialist at the hospital - hopefully it won't come to that but worth asking.

Meanwhile a good mutlivitamin/mineral supplement and plenty of leafy green veg will help with healing.
Hope she feels better soon.
