Hi everyone,

I posted on here a while ago when my daughter was 18 months saying she was still not walking and a lot of mums said their LO was also late and try not to worry. My DD will be 2 in 7 weeks and still isn’t walking and it’s worrying me

4/5 weeks ago she had her first physio appointment, all her hips and joints were checked and they came back fine. They came to the conclusion it’s maybe a sensory issue and she just doesn’t like the feeling on her feet walking so to try and get her to take steps bare foot (she will take steps but not for long and just fall, she likes to go about on her knees - I’ve put about 5 pairs of trousers in the bin as she makes holes in them!)

Basically the physio said she will see her again at the end of this month but is certain she will be walking but then but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen

Anyone else had a late walker?

My cousin didn't crawl / walk / move at all until a few weeks after her 2nd birthday when she got up and walked across the room to get a book! She rarely ever wobbled / fell ever in the first days and within a few weeks she was running around with her peers and it was very hard to notice any difference in her ability to theirs.

Just thought I would give u all an update

Doctor appointment last week and he said he didn’t want to refer her to a child’s doctor until she had saw the physio which was yesterday

The physio said she cannot see anything what so ever that is causing her to not walk. I told her my DD has improved in the last 1-2 weeks as in taking a few steps independently, and the physio just thinks it’s confidence issues and doesn’t want to see her again. She will have her 27 month check in June and the physio said if she’s not walking by then, then they will refer her to the specialist doctor. Isn’t June a long time to not do anything if she doesn’t start walking properly before hand??

My DD was about 21 months and my DS was just over 2. I wasn't worried about either of them because I could see they were making progress (crawling, pulling themselves up, cruising etc., at least having a go and stretching their muscles), it was just slow/late. At 5 and 3 you wouldn't know there had been any kind of delay. By all means pursue it if you're worried and if it doesn't feel like they are making any progress, but on its own, it doesn't have to mean that there is an issue :-)

My husband was about 2 when he started walking. He’s very sporty and represented his school for long distance running.

OP, sorry I've only just seen this. My daughter struggles mainly with distance when walking, she can't walk far without crying to be carried or go on the buggy board. Her gross motor skills aren't really where they should be either, she's not great at balancing, kicking a ball and jumping with 2 feet at the same time. She struggles with toileting, dressing and undressing and is behind in school, though I think this is more to do with her development delay x

@hshavshejwhg12 I know this is an old thread but if you are still on here I was just wondering how your DD got on? Did she catch up with walking and was she ever diagnosed with anything? We are going through something similar. I hope everything turned out well for you!

@wishIwasonholiday10 hello! She eventually started walking just after her 2nd birthday. Everything absolutely fine, she just wanted to take her time which was fine for her but not so much my arms!

Hope everything is OK with your little one. If you are worried definitely push for appointments but most of the time they are just being lazy monkeys 🙂.

@hshavshejwhg12 Great to hear that everything is OK with your little one! Mine is 21 months and still not close to walking. We are seeing the physio but don’t currently have any other medical involvement and am not sure whether to push for more investigations or just see how we get on with the physio for a bit longer. I wouldn’t want to subject her to unnecessary invasive tests if she is just a bit lazy or overly cautious.

My second DS was 22 months, I had him checked out prior to this, there weren't any problems. My DH was apparently 2 and I think I walked about 18 months so I suppose in our case it made sense.
