Will my DS still feel unwell once chickenpox rash develops?

Hi there, I'm pretty sure my son (almost 3) is coming down with chickenpox. There have been cases at his nursery and he's been unwell all weekend. My question is, if/when the rash develops will he still feel unwell or is that just the first few days?

Thanks for any help!

Mine were unwell for around 3-4 days after the spots appeared.

I’m afraid so

Yes, I’m afraid the misery doesn’t even peak until they’re smothered in horrible, itchy spots. When my son had chicken pox it took a week before he started feeling better. It was a rough week and one I’m glad not to have to repeat.

My 3 year old just had chicken pox. Not unwell, or itchy at all. My 6 year old has now got them 13 days later, and again, he hasn't been unwell, and isn't itching.
Just wanted to give some hope there!
Pic attached in case anyone says "are you sure it was chicken pox". Yes.

It just depends on how severely he gets it to be honest! 2 out mine were absolutely fine with the rash, and one was very very unwell. It's luck of the draw I think.

My DD was grotty for the first couple of days but much brighter once they were all out.

My DC were vaguely off-colour for a day or so before the spots came out, but no worse than you might put down to teething, tiredness or a mild cold (or just being toddlers!). Once the spots came out they were absolutely fine and barely even itchy or sore.

Everyone's different I suppose.
