DD very underweight and pains in joints

DD is 9 and has been complaining of pains in her legs, arms and fingers this last week and 'heavy legs' as her legs are tiring very easily even on a short walk to school.
I first though they were just growing pains but read that these mostly happen at night?
She started getting cramps behind her knee which came on suddenly and she can't straighten her leg - very painful for her.
I have made a Drs appointment but we've had to wait 3 weeks and it's not until Feb.

DD has allergies to fish, egg and nut and so she doesn't get any of these foods but she does eat quite well and finishes off a full plate of dinner and often asks for more.

She's very active usually and doesn't tire easily which is why the past few days she's been complaining are unusual.

I've just weighed her and I'm scared she is underweight. Very according to the chart. She has a petite frame anyway especially when compared to her sister and brother who are both fairly big boned. My 7 year old dd is as tall as her and her feet/clothes the same size.

I've just weighed her in at 3 stone 11. :(

Does this seem really underweight or am I reading the chart wrong?

My dd is 10 next week, fit & healthy but has a small appetite & weighs 3 stone 11 lbs & is 128cm tall so I'd say weight was fine.

She's never suffered but my ds has had 'growing pains' that seem to focus on his shin bones & ankles.

Thanks for the imput. She has not been tested for CD IS.
BMI checker puts her on the 14th centile so not as bad as I thought when looking at the charts from WHO.

3 stone 11 lbs is about 24kg. That's between the 9th and 2nd percentile for weight, depending on whether she's just 9 or almost 10. 127cm is also between the 9th and 2nd percentile for height, depending on whether she's just 9 or almost 10. So all in all, she's perfectly proportioned, just on the lower centiles, which somebody has to be.

My DD1 had leg pains which were quite severe for a time. After some physio, they improved and they decided it was a growth spurt.

I put it all down to growing pains until I read that growing pains usually happen at night rather than daytime or morning spec.

Agree with PPs about vitamin D - everyone in the U.K. should really take it due to our poor sun exposure. Especially if DD has darker skin.

Seeing the GP is sensible if you are worried - I don't test for vitamin D much any more and just tell everyone to supplement.

Thanks Hipho. The aches and pains have come on only this week which is why I was worried. I should be supplementing her anyway though like you say.

I think the height / weight is ok, but would be concerned about her pain. I don't think it's reasonable for a child to have to wait so long for an appointment.. can you push for an earlier one?

Monkeybusiness2 · 19/01/2019 19:10

Wizzler, I rang on Friday to see if she could get anything earlier and they said they didn't have anything. I'll have to try and see if they have any cancellations next week unless I get an emergency one, but unless she gets much worse rapidly I'm not sure about doing that.

Type 1 diabetes can be very serious if diagnosis (and treatment) is delayed so if she has had recent and noticeable weight loss you should get her checked urgently. The test to (hopefully) rule it out is very straightforward and can be done by GP (and possibly at a pharmacy)
