Hi,

for the past 4/5 days my 1 year old daughter has gone off eating and would only take a bottle, she has now refused all bottles and all food, she has been throwing up all day, has not been wetting as many nappies, has green loose stools, and has had a temperature between 38-39.1. Every time she lays to go to sleep she is waking up dripping in sweat. All she wants to do is sleep all day, and when she is awake all she is doing is crying and seems irritable. I took her to the doctors today where I was totally dismissed within a matter of minutes with him saying 'she is just teething' however, any other time she has teethed she has not been this poorly, and he said she didn't seem dehydrated. He told me to keep giving her liquids little and often, but as I explained to him, she doesn't and won't take any liquids. She had paracetamol prior to this appointment and still had a temperature of 38.2. He also said she had a cold and would have to 'ride it out'. My instincts are telling me it's more than teething and a cold and I should be more concerned, especially when she has a past of reoccuring bronchiolitis, and I want to take her to the paediatric unit, but maybe think they will just say the same thing and I'm just over reacting as a mother.. just wondering what peoples opinions are should I go with my instinct and take her or listen to the doctor?

Take her to a and e.

PenApple · 09/01/2019 16:04

When did she last keep fluids down? How many wet nappies today?

I have a 1yo and apart from dehydration my main concern would be green nappies. In your shoes I’d phone 111 in a couple of hours when dr’s is shut.

DreamsofJacaranda · 09/01/2019 16:06

Take her. Better safe than sorry, and it certainly sounds concerning.

Ragaroo · 09/01/2019 16:07

Call 111, they'll direct you to a & e if necessary.

BifsWif · 09/01/2019 16:08

Go to A&E. Trust your instinct.

They never mind seeing little ones.

ReaganSomerset · 09/01/2019 16:09

Call 111, or go to a and e.

Amimissingsomethinghere · 09/01/2019 16:09

Gosh I would take to a and e

GlossyTaco · 09/01/2019 16:10

Sorry to be blunt , but screw 111. She's throwing up and refusing fluids. A and e is the best option here.

mistermagpie · 09/01/2019 16:28

A&E. My SIL is an A&E registrar and she has advised us to take 1 year old DS in for less than what you are describing. Unfortunately my DS has been to A&E a few times and they staff are always glad you came.

NorthEndGal · 09/01/2019 16:30

How many wet diapers has she had in the last 24 hours?
Also, if you pinch the skin on the back of her hand , does it stay bunched up, or smooth out right away?

CottonSock · 09/01/2019 18:04

The GP assessed bases in what they saw. If she is now worse call for further advice. When my dd was assessed at hospital they had take dilute squash from a syringe. Can you try that or a spoon?

missyB1 · 09/01/2019 18:08

Just go to hospital and get her seen. GPS get it wrong sometimes.

thaegumathteth · 09/01/2019 18:12

In terms of fluids give her diluting juice (not sugar free) in a syringe so 5ml or so every 15 minutes

aidelmaidel · 09/01/2019 18:13

That sounds terrifying. I would be going to the emergency room with all that, and I am usually the "ride it out" kind.

babysharkah · 09/01/2019 18:15

Agree a and e. How long since she kept an fluid down and had a wet nappy?

Wotev · 09/01/2019 18:17

I'd get her checked out. You've nothing to lose.

mindgoinground12 · 09/01/2019 19:52

temperature still over 38 despite meds needs checking

Wotev · 09/01/2019 23:19

Yes, ring 111 at least. Hope little one recovers quickly!
