What’s wrong with DD

Dd(9) can be very anxious and is currently being assessed for potential ocd/depression - this could be relevant.

She’s had 3 GP visits last year, 2 of which resulted in immediate hospital investigations - none were conclusive and many many bloods and blood pressure monitoring etc were perfectly healthy, last lot taken 3 months ago.

There’s ALWAYS something wrong with her, in holidays/weekends too so probably not a school avoidance issue. If I take her to GP for her random symptoms will they just dismiss her as hypochondriac or anxiety related? Her last Gp appointment was because she was getting chest pains and a sore throat so bad she was screaming when drinking water. By the time I got the appointment that afternoon she felt completely fine and dr was a bit Hmm at why I had taken her.

For a few weeks now she’s been saying at 1 point each day the back of her necks gets extremely hot where it feels like it’s on fire and it hurts, it passes after a minute or so. She’s also mentioned sometimes she feels like she can’t breathe, having to take big deep breaths for a few mins.

Now she’s just said about how she ‘zones out like a day dream’ at least once a day and her vision goes a bit fuzzy and feels faint, she shakes her head and then she’s fine....

I’m not one to take dc to dr’s for every little thing but I shouldn’t ignore these right? My gut says there’s nothing physical wrong, but it’s also telling me to book an appointment.

Sorry if this seems obvious but when you’re hearing different complaints everyday it can muddle your reasoning! DH doesn’t seem too worried.

Hi there @DoomGloom
I was diagnosed with ocd and anxiety aged 7 so I have a feeling what your daughter is experiencing (all these random suddenly occurring then cured symptoms) is just plain old anxiety.

The body is an interesting thing, and you really can think yourself ill! If she's aware she's anxious, or even unaware she could just be being more sensitive to her body and picking at every tiny thing and blowing it up to the point she's convinced she has this and that.

As for the fuzziness and trouble concentrating that's totally normal with anxiety. My psychologist says it's exhausting to have anxiety, your brain is constantly thinking and in panic mode so it's no wonder she has moments of brain fog and fuzziness. I get it most often in the evenings if things are bad.

E.g last week I had a week long migraine/head pain thing (it's stopped now and turns out I just needed to wear my glasses more!) but I was CONVINCED I had a brain tumour and needed to get an MRI. Just stick it out with her, unless she shows worrying physical symptoms don't bother with the doctor, can they not offer her any anti anxiety/depressant meds or therapy? X

Thank you. I’m sure as they are so random it’s not physical but a little voice is saying what if it is and I ignored it?

I don’t think she’s thinking specific things wrong with her (I.e Tumour etc) as I don’t think she’d know what she was looking for with symptoms (we monitor her web history etc too) and she often refuses to see a dr/gets really mad when I say I’ve booked an appointment.

Re getting help she’s got an appointment with CAHMS next month to chat about everything, apart from this she’s seen a GP once about it who then refered her to CAHMS, and I’ve spoken to someone from CAHMS who’ve sent workbooks to go through about worrying too much etc. So no medication or official diagnosis yet.

I had ocd traits growing up but was never diagnosed, so it could be she is similar & hopefully will grow out of them. I was never as anxious though.
