Chicken Pox

Help.
I'm sooooo tired. 5year old DS has chicken pox. I've not taken him doctors, the pox started coming up a day ago, and having had 2 other children (older) who have had the pox I kinda know that doctors don't do anything.
I guess I'm just expressing as I'm really tired. Haven't slept.
He's had a really bad night with it and I'm feeling so sorry for him. It's everywhere. Inside his mouth, ears to the bottom of his feet and around his groin.
I was wondering if anyone can suggest anything I can use to ease this for him. I've got the calamine, Piriton, calpol and flannel. I just want him to get better as it's horrible seeing him in this pain.
I'm off work at the mo. Don't go back till Wednesday and can only hope he's on the mend by then as I hate leaving him although he'll be with his grandma

Oats/bicarb in the bath?

Verytiredmum13 · 07/01/2019 10:47

I've not tried that, but will. Will try anything

When my son had them I bathed him 2-3 times daily in bi-carb. It really helped. Also Aveeno bath oil is good If you can come across it. I can’t find it anywhere anymore.

Rather than the calamine from a bottle, I used calamine - aqeous cream that was in a tube. I had to ask for it in boots (not on the shelf) but it was a lot easier to apply than the bottled stuff!!

Good luck!

Thanks. I'll try all of these suggestions. Really helpful as I didn't know calamine comes in a tube.

My 6 year old DS2 has it at the moment and I've got poxclin. He says it really helps. It's expensive but definitely worth it. That and oat baths - he says it feels really nice getting in the water.

Calpol for headaches and temp but don't forget they can't have ibuprofen with chickenpox.

I know how you feel. He's so restless at night and I'm exhausted. Term starts tomorrow and I was so looking forward to some time to myself as well. Won't be getting any until at least next Monday now. That said, I feel more sorry for him than myself. He's really suffering.

Virasoothe! Saved my sanity. It’s a cooling gel applied all over. That’s the only thing that helped us.

Yes to virasooth. I think you can even get it in a spray.

Ice lollies are good too.
