I will take my 2 year old DS to the doctors Monday, but out of curiosity what does this look like?

A cold sore

JollyGiraffe · 05/01/2019 10:46

I would suggest that you go and see a pharmacist- they would be able to confirm as it's difficult to tell from the photos!

Unless your child is immunosuppressed, a trip to the GP isn't necessary.

You can buy antiviral cream from the pharmacy

Looks like a cold sore to me too. They can be tingly/itchy so watch they don't touch it and wash hands regularly to avoid spreading it.

SPR1107 · 05/01/2019 10:48

Cold sore was what I was afraid of.
He just keeps saying it's sore and he is touching it a lot, he's also potty training, so hands are everywhere currently!

Other possibility is impetigo..

SPR1107 · 05/01/2019 11:01

How would a two year old catch a cold sore or impetigo?

OP posts:
Woofsaidtheladybird · 05/01/2019 11:05

Does he go to nursery / childminders / playgroups etc? Impetigo is common in children aged 2-5.. transmitted by other children with it basically... easily treated with antibiotics from GP

TheFairyCaravan · 05/01/2019 11:07

Exactly this. A pharmacist would be able to tell you what it is today.

JollyGiraffe · 05/01/2019 11:07

Cold sores are caused by close contact with someone who carries the virus and has a cold sore. It's most contagious during an outbreak, but is still contagious for some time afterwards.

It's very very common, so I wouldn't be at all worried unless your DS has a compromised immune system.

Woofsaidtheladybird · 05/01/2019 11:08

Agree with pharmacist visit!

SPR1107 · 05/01/2019 11:50

Just got back from the pharmacist, who said it's highly unlikely to be a cold sore, thinks it looks more like a hot food burn (which I can't imagine it is), or the onset of hand foot and mouth

OP posts:
BatFaced · 05/01/2019 13:56

That's impetigo I'd say

FruitCider · 05/01/2019 13:58

That is definitely a cold sore. Nothing like impetigo!

Woofsaidtheladybird · 05/01/2019 15:47
Hmm hmm well I'd say Its pretty damn similiar to impetigo, a coldsore, or potentially HFM.. the photos aren't that clear, so really I'd go on what the pharmacist says who has actually seen it..
SPR1107 · 05/01/2019 16:36

He now has two blisters on his scalp too, so similar to the pharmacist, I'm thinking definitely not a cold sore.

OP posts:
JollyGiraffe · 05/01/2019 16:39

Can you post a photo of the blisters on his scalp?

SPR1107 · 05/01/2019 16:54

MN said I've posted too many images, and can only do 6 per day, so will have to post tomorrow

OP posts:
JollyGiraffe · 05/01/2019 17:42

Cold sores can occur in other places too, not just lips (I get them on my forehead!)

Are there any ulcers inside his mouth? Would point towards hand foot and mouth

Palestperson · 05/01/2019 17:51

Check his hands, feet and inside of mouth for other blisters - could be hand foot and mouth.

Seeline · 05/01/2019 17:53

Chicken pox?

SPR1107 · 05/01/2019 18:07

He won't let me see inside but he has eaten his dinner without an issue.
He's now got two spots on his cheek near the blister, 2 on scalp, and a mark on his hand which I can't tell if is a blister or a scratch
