Pain from constipation?

DS age 7 has had stomach pain since yesterday afternoon. He said his tummy hurt and he was tired and since then he had been sleeping for short periods then waking crying/writhing in pain. A couple of times he's suddenly felt better and asked for food but this has set him off again. He saw Dr when he was not feeling so bad and Dr said he thought it was constipation but best not to give medication just feed him foods like dried apricots and lots of drinks. He's in a lot of pain again and doesn't want to eat and am forcing drink down him. I'm worried how I can get him to poo without medication when he won't eat. Also Dr said his stomach felt soft so doesn't think it's impacted in which case I can't understand why it hurts so much. Does anyone have similar experience. Don't really know what to do! Thanks

He really needs a laxative.

I've been through so much with ds stomach and vowel problems.

You can buy lactulose over the counter. And a hot compress will help the pain

Oh for fuck's sake. High fibre fruit is great for avoiding getting constipated, or for when they're trying to come off medication, but it is NOT the recommendation if actually constipated.

To quote from the NICE guidance "Do not use dietary interventions alone as first-line treatment for idiopathic constipation".

PS Not swearing at you, but at the advice you were given.

Thank you for responding. It's frustrating that nothing was offered laxative wise because I don't see how he will get things moving now he's off food because of the pain! I've given him a hot compress now which is helping but he's still in too much pain to sleep. Will see how he goes tonight/tomorrow and then call doc again and ask about laxative. I feel a bit scared of using them without medical supervision...

If he's in agony and can't sleep get him to OOH. I've had to do it many times with DS so many times. They may give him a glycerin suppository.
