Snotty baby chokes when lying down

My baby is 3 months old and has a cold (so do I). He just seems too small to deal with all the snot. Since Tuesday evening we have been unable to put him down because he coughs violently, and then vomits. I can't prop him up / raise the cot end because he seems unable to clear his mouth when he's at an angles, so will choke on what he's just brought up.
We have tried saline drops and a snot sucker, but it's not enough.
His breathing is fine when he's upright. Still coughs a bit, but it seems to clear the snot rather than choke him.
He's currently sleeping peacefully on my shoulder, but I am shattered.

Going to my Mum's house later so she can hold him while I sleep, but is there anytging else I can try for the next few hours?

Oh those colds are so horrible aren't they. And the poor little things feel like they will drown in their own snot. I remember sleeping sitting up(ish) with baby up on my chest.

Like you say, snot sucker and saline. Also, steam to loosen mucus (although not sure what the evidence is for this, but the old wives tale advised it) so with steamy bathroom or a humidifier in the bedroom. Vicks on the soles of the feet, then socks over it. Calpol for the pain.

Yes go to your mum's for sleep. Take advantage! I remember tag teaming with DH for sleep. You somehow get through it, then give yourself time to catch up. No fun though, but give it a week and hopefully it will be long gone.

Thanks Starface. It is awful, but my biggest consolation is knowing it's just a cold, and will pass soon.

I've been told that the calpol plug in is great for a cold! Just keep doing what you're doing with the aspiration and saline spray. Like you said, it will pass. Take advantage of your mum for your sleep though. Good luck, OP! Hope your baby gets well soon, and yourself too!!
