Chicken pox ... advice needed

Morning everyone! Sorry for early post; but I'm wide awake...

Anyways need some advice about my daughter and her chicken pox.

She started getting spots Saturday evening and new ones have appeared everyday until today (which is good) but they are taking ages to scab over.

I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it'll take for them to not be contagious? As she is desperate to go back to school and school policy says the last one has to scab/ crust over

Any advice would be greatly received

B x

She’s contagious until the last one scabs over

HotInWinter · 07/12/2018 03:20

About a week to scab over.

mummyb201303 · 07/12/2018 09:31

So does that mean after a week of having them she can go back to school? Just cos she's only stopped producing new spots Confused

When they have ALL scabbed over and no new ones are appearing then they can come out of isolation.

mummyb201303 · 07/12/2018 09:55

So she will probs have another week off school? Shock

Why would that mean another week off?

BlackInk · 07/12/2018 10:07

Chamomile lotion and baths with bicarbonate of soda in can help the spots dry out quicker...

mummyb201303 · 07/12/2018 12:14

She's had antihistamine syrup, sprayed her with virasoothe, had b.soda baths and she is on antibiotics as she is allergic to the pox virus :(

She is starting to scab but as I say her last spots were yesterday...

Hopefully they will scab over during the weekend and she can go back Monday or Tuesday

widgetbeana · 09/12/2018 12:55

She must not, MUST NOT go back until they have ALL scabbed over. Chicken pox is dangerous to pregnant women, I have 2 teacher friends who were exposed during pregnancies (one sibling brought to a parents evening, one child sent back with some none scabbed pox which weren't discovered for half a day).
The latter one ended up with very grave consequences for her pregnancy. The former was lucky, she noticed the child and walked when the parents refused to leave with the child.

It is a dangerous illness, do not help it spread because it is an inconvenience to you. 1-2 weeks off is standard. Just don't, please don't, take her anywhere at all until they are all scabbed.

Hi my 16 month daughter has chickenpox they came out last night I had the vaccine when I was pregnant can I still get them? Thankyou x

Loraline · 09/12/2018 12:58

Usually about 2-3 days after last spots appear, they're all scabbed over. Spots usually scabby after 3 days.

mummyb201303 · 09/12/2018 13:14

Looks like she may be off for another week as the ones on her tummy aren't all scabbed over! Sad

Why another week? If they are scabbed by Tuesday or Wednesday then surely she can go back then
