Nose bleeds

Basically am I over reacting. My dd 3 for the last 2/3 months has been having terrible nose bleeds, mainly but not exclusively at night. The night ones in particular are bad. You got into her room and it's like a horror film.

They seem to go away for a week and then come back.
Last night she had another one completly covered in blood and her double bed.
I now think it's gone on long enough and wonder if she needs to be checked over by the GP.
The other part of me thinks that they're just nose bleeds and she might be prone to them.

Before these started shes maybe had one in her life..

Of course you need to go to gp!

Kitkat2018 · 03/12/2018 08:05

Thank you will make an appointment today. She's absolutely fine otherwise and after the bleeding is stopped fine.
Now I'm feeling like I should've take her a couple of weeks ago. Last night's was the first in 2 weeks. Thought they had stopped.
Crap.

My ds went through a stage of having them. He had a scab in one nostril and that caused the bleeding. It eventually healed.

I did take him to the dr just to check it was nothing more serious.

My DS gets them all the time, not as bad anymore (he’s 9) but when he was 3/4/5 they were just like your DD’s.

I did take him to our GP and he said it was nothing to worry about. He said to imagine the size of the bag when you donate blood, and then imagine how much mess it would make if you dropped it, as a way to make me feel better about the volume of blood that was coming out his nose!

Definitely take her to get checked, we did find out DS was extremely anaemic and iron deficient and he had to do 6 months of liquid iron.

My nephew also suffered badly and he ended up getting his cauterised.

I feel for you dealing with the ‘Carrie on prom night’ scenes you wake up to sometimes! Flowers

Hi OP

It's probably worth getting a quick check up, but my DS was like this too and GP wasn't remotely interested.

With my DS I think it was triggered by cold weather/central heating and whenever he was coming down with a cold or fever.

He's 9 now and it doesn't happen often any more.

Thanks all. 2hrs at the GP sit and wait and they've refered us to ENT. Doesn't seem to concernd. Just said if she gets another bad one that lasts longer than 30mins to take her to the hospital.

Have any of them lasted longer than that?

Kitkat2018 · 03/12/2018 14:44

Her one last night bleed for about an hour, seemed to have stopped then a minute later would start again. I had just decided to take her to a and e when it stopped and she fell asleep. I stayed with her then till morning when I took her to the gp.

The ones in the day last about 5 - 10 mins. The ones in the night last longer but I'm not too sure how long as it seems to start before she wakes as when she's calling me shes already coverd ifyswim. Then we are their for about 20/30 mins till it stops. But it's not pouring all that time just a steady stream.

I think if she gets another like that I'm just whipping her straight up to minor injuries 20mins away.

Other than that she's her normal self. A bit tired but she's ready for end of term too.

@Blackink I'm going to leave her little radiator off tonight as I'm wondering if she's getting too hot and that's triggering it.
