Baby crying frantically at night mainly

Hello fellow parents,

I have a nine week old baby boy, usually when it comes to evenings he starts crying frantically and inconsolable. Timings are roughly between 9pm - 11pm, somes even continuously for upto 1 hour and half. It gets so high pitched as if he is in some type of pain, this has been happen for at ;east the last 6-8 weeks.

Is this normal?
Is there a reason for this?
I looked into colic but my understanding is thats lasts for much longer!

I feed him on time, regularly change nappies, regularly check room and his temperature.

During his eight weeks onwards I also noticed he takes out more milk just after feeding (not vomiting)

Does anyone have any idea to what's happening?

Reflux?

Colic

Drogosnextwife · 04/12/2018 21:54

Colic, both mine had it it's so frustrating. I started using coleif drops in their bottles to break down the lactose, that helped quite a bit bit didn't solve it completely, try infacol and gripe water is quite good bit I think they may have to be 3 months for that. If it's reflux you can go to the doctor and they will prescribe baby gaviscon bit you can't buy it over the counter I don't think.

Although someone told me breast fed babies don't get colic. I have no idea if that's true though.

SallyWD · 04/12/2018 21:58

I breastfed and my daughter had terrible colic. This sounds just like colic as it happens in the evenings. Very typical of colic. Infacol helped a bit and we got something else from the doctor. I can't remember the name. The good news is that colic tends to improve dramatically after 3 months.

Sounds like colic, our baby's improved 90% when I cut out dairy. Worth a trip to the Gp to rule out reflux or cows milk protein intolerance. Colic usually resolves by 4-6 months. I know that sounds like a lifetime away though!

You said you feed ‘on time’ but this is classic cluster feeding time, could he be having a growth spurt and looking for more milk?

HarrietSchulenberg · 04/12/2018 22:03

I was told breastfed babies don't get colic too. Bit they do. Oh they bloody well do.
Infacol worked wonders and I used it from about 6 weeks.

Soiree · 04/12/2018 22:04

Yes I agree sometimes it's easy to want to stick to your routine when actually your baby is too little for a routine and wants to cluster feed. I've done this myself way too many times; thought there's no way she can be hungry already and tried different holds, leg cycling, pretty lights, rubbing her tummy, then eventually tried feeding and she's fed for ages, or downed a massive bottle.

We got on well with gripe water to ease colic

Oly5 · 04/12/2018 22:15

Feed him during this time, just sit on the sofa and let him feed. It could be colic but I’m guessing he will be happy with your breast/at a bottle. Just watch a box set, eat and feed him. It passes and gets much easier

Over tired? It took me a few weeks to figure this one out with my DS when he was a few weeks old. It pretty much stopped when I figured it out and started facilitating getting him to sleep more.

Hunger or colic

Mine always got colic at 5am, regular as clockwork
Other babies get the 'witching hour'

Try feeding and if that doesn't help, tomorrow try cycling their legs, but don't cycle their legs or massage their tummies after a feed because it's very uncomfortable for them

This too will pass. Hang in there Thanks

Colic..mine was exactly the same.
The only thing that helped was a warm long bath..as soon as he went in would stop..but then would get him out and cry again. I then would have to do baby massage for about twenty mins a night
