Since LB was born he has been a snuffly baby and is so noisy when he sleeps- much worse at night. He is now 9 weeks old and has had two colds already.
I think he is almost over the second cold however at night he wakes for a feed and then lies their literally grunting and thrashing around trying to get comfortable where he just so congested. I hold him upright for 20-30min periods which sometimes works enough for him to go back to sleep but other times this can take hours.
He wakes every three hours to feed and normally the first two of the night are straightforward: feed, hold upright, back to Moses basket. The last one is the one where he seems to be more bunged up and I often give up after w while a bring him into bed with us for an hour or two until we wake.

For the past couple of nights the congestion and grunting is getting worse. It's starting to affect him much earlier in the night.

He is fine during the day apart from the odd sneeze.

Does this sound like more than a cold? He sounds so uncomfortable which is waking him and then keeping him awake. I'm concerned it could be asthma or an allergy. I've been to the doctors twice already and they weren't concerned.

Does anyone have any tips or advice? We have raised the bed at one end and I am using olbas oil on a towel under the basket.

Adenoids???

I would go to gp and ask for a referral to ent.

Grunting is often digestion related - hate to jump on the popular bandwagon but potentially reflux?
Even if it is reflux that doesn’t mean it necessarily needs medicating. If it’s discomofrt due to stomach acid then you’d want ranitidine and not gaviscon (gaviscon is for vomiting)

My little 6 week old is like this.

First thing I would do is take him to the GP and get them to listen to his chest to rule anything nasty out! My little boy's chest is always clear he's just always clogged up in his nose.

We turn our bathroom into a sauna on days when it's really bad. Run a shower really hot, close the doors and spend time in the room while it's warm and steamy - my GP recommended it and it helps dislodge the mucus, plus my little boy finds it very relaxing and it helps him sleep!

I also use saline drops and a sucker thing to try and clear the mucus from his nose, it doesn't always work but worth a try..

My first baby grunted and I remember asking about it. It was nothing- pretty much him just getting used to being able to make noises.
Raising the bed and olbas oil are a good plan. When my babies had colds or seemed to suffer with breathing I would tend to lie them slightly on their dide- you can do this by placing a tolled up towel either side of baby and sort of wedging him in.
You could video records the grunting on your phone and shoe the hv?

show the hv.
