My little boy is 9 months old. He was on Amoxicillin for tonsillitis last week.
On Sunday night he was very upset. Cried and screamed a lot. Monday morning i noticed he was covered head to toe in rash/spots.
I took him to the dr who wasn’t sure. He said that he didn’t think it was an antibiotic rash and thought it was highy likey to be chickenpox. I also wondered this although thought the sudden on set was unusual compared to how it happened with my daughter.
The next morning the spots are less and it’s more rash like and spread.
He is absolutley covered, poor thing. But otherwise he is well. Temp is 36.1-36.5.
No dr appts left today when i phoned this morning. The pharmacist wasn’t sure but didn’t really have a look at him.

Heers Line - I'm in the dark with immunisation ages!

Definitely recommend getting seen by a GP tomorrow...

Hi everyone, he’s still ok. Rash is less angry this morning but still there. We got some antihistamines to try. He was a bit unsettled last night, tossing and turning and up crying so had him next to me to keep an eye on him and he was fine. Finally getting to see a dr this morning! I’ll let you all know what they say (it’s a different one than last time 👍🏼)
Also, yes he’s up to date with all jags but to young for MMR yet.

I’d have guessed scarlet fever myself but allergy rashes to antibiotics are fairly common

Lineofbeauty · 28/11/2018 09:29

Actually I wonder if he has mono (glandular fever) as I think you can get that kind of rash when you take amoxicillin at the same time. Common and really not serious in young children, worse in young adults. It gives you a manky throat as well.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 28/11/2018 09:39

It looks very similar to DS's rash when he had scarlet fever.

Jesus, your surgery and their attitude!!

Seriously, go down in person, and show the receptionist his rash. Ask if they are personally happy for a baby of his age to be denied an appointment today. They will ensure you are seen today. No GP or Nurse will refuse to see him, even with the fading.

DevonCustard90 · 28/11/2018 10:20

Dr is seeing him in 1/2 hour.

That's great OP. Hope it's something mild and innocuous.

MissSmiley · 28/11/2018 11:21

I think it's a viral rash they tend to fade like that
But I would definitely get it checked out

DevonCustard90 · 28/11/2018 11:37

Dr a bit puzzled as he’s so well but thinks it antibiotic rash or rubella (if his skin starts to flake/peel then it’s rubella)

It looks to me like a viral rash or hives as a result of him being unwell
