Think this is the right place to ask this, sorry very new to Mumsnet.

My 15 month old daughters last 3 poo's have looked exactly like soil. I have no concerns about her being dehydrated. She has plenty of heavy nappy's throughout the day and is always carrying her bottle of water with her.

She is teething, she's cutting her 12th tooth currently. I haven't introduced any new foods. She is drinking breastmilk in the night and I haven't had any new foods either.

Does any one know whether I should be concerned over this? Or what is the reason behind them.

Is it like rabbit droppings / pellets? Or soft and grainy which to me is soil? If they are hard, she is constipated and may be dehydrated. Try some prunes to clear her out.

They're soft and grainy and black in colour. Thank you for you advice :)

If it's black you need to seek medical advice, unless there's an obvious explanation like iron supplements

Black is a worry - it would often mean an intestinal/stomach bleed. Grainy reinforces that. Get her checked out straight away, take a sample with you.

Some foods give babies black poo - Oreos and blue berries

toastymarshmallowss · 25/11/2018 07:54

Has she been playing with sand? I always know when my daughter has been playing with (eating) sand at nursery! Although it is usually brown not black. (She has occasionally had the odd very dark poo.)

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 25/11/2018 08:08

Black and resembling coffee grounds? If so please get her assessed ASAP as it could suggest internal (upper gi) bleeding.

schooltripwoes · 25/11/2018 08:20

Black and grainy is a worry as it can be a sign of bleeding internally. Is she well in herself? Either way, get her checked out ASAP.

MrsMyrtle · 25/11/2018 08:29

Black and grainy VOMIT is a medical emergency not poo!

BlueRose28 · 25/11/2018 11:28

MrsPaytonJones she has had Oreos around the same time actually, her father gave her some. Phew worry over. Although if she has another one I will speak to the GP to see if they recommend making an appointment. She is completely fine within herself and hasn't been complaining from a sore tummy

Thanks everyone for your advice Smile

Was going to say that sounds like Oreo poo!
Usually if it's black and tarry/sticky is a sign of blood, but don't worry about it!

CrookedMe · 25/11/2018 11:48

I once almost drove my son to A&E in a panic because he had bloody poo, until he mentioned as we were getting into the car that he'd had beetroot at school dinners Grin
