I’m getting a callback from the doctor but any ideas what this might be?

While I wait for the doctor to call help reassure me my son has normal child being poorly illness and isn’t dying.

Last night he woke up 4 times to vomit.
I brought him into my room but he just jumped around chatting so I gave up and put him back in his own bed.
This morning he feels very hot but also has goosebumps on exposed areas of skin.
He has a small red rash, partly raised but mostly not, covering his cheek (just one) and a few patches of it on his chin. He normally has quite sensitive skin though so maybe it’s because when he was sick it irritated the skin.

He’s super tired today but he was up for hours last night so I’m not too surprised. Wish he was this chill last night!

Slapped cheek? Any virus could theoretically make a child vomit.

Scarlet fever?

TimeWoundsAllHeals · 23/11/2018 10:12

He’s not had any upper respiratory symptoms which I’d expect in both those cases right?

No upper respiratory symptoms in mine for either of those. Scarlet Fever does have a sore throat, although neither of mine was it bad, and slapped cheek was just temperature and rash for mine.

It doesn't sound like slapped cheek though to me. But it could be any viral rash.

Any update?

It was the one red cheek that suggested slapped cheek to me as that was what my son had. No upper respiratory symptoms, in fact, I don't recall him even having a temperature though I suppose there must have been one. He was sent home from school with the rash, and cross to be sent home as he wasn't feeling unwell, though the doctor later confirmed slapped cheek.

Didn’t get a diagnosis (unlikely over the phone anyway) but they said to let him nap if he’s sleepy and if he eats his lunch and isn’t quite as hot with paracetamol then I don’t need to come in. He didn’t eat it all but tbh that’s not unusual for him and he did eat some. He’s super tired but he was up bouncing around after every vomiting session so I’m not surprised at all. I’m exhausted too.

The rash looks like the picture of slapped cheek on nhs website and is now spreading a bit to the other side. But internet says vomiting isn’t typical with it 🤷🏻‍♀️
