Run out of flu spray 😬

Dd has had a really snotty cold for a couple of weeks (pretty much since I got my flu spray letter for her). The nurse said wait til it was gone as otherwise the spray would probably stream back out again. Rang today as she is over it and they’ve run out of spray. Now I feel worried to take her anywhere, and won’t all the other kids be shedding it? She’s only 2 so am I right in thinking a chemist won’t do it?

Get her the jab instead. As the nurse said, she won't absorb it properly until her cold clears up. The virus is only shed for a few days after receiving the spray and it's attenuated so the risk is fairly low.

Good on you for taking care of this. Smile

I don’t think she can have the jab? None of the pharmacies seem to give it to her age.

You could ring your GP to see if they can do it. Children can get the jab. The flu mist was taken off the market a few years ago in the USA for being ineffective and wasn't available, so there wasn't an alternative to the jab. They've improved the mist and it's back on now. Or you could wait a bit until her cold clears up and then do the mist. It's still pretty early in the flu season.

Most practices are put of injectable flu vaccine too, hopefully nationally back in circulation next week

Children can do get the jab ( it's inactivated, therefore, not 'live' . It's generally given to immunocompromised children, ie ones with cancer receiving or have received chemotherapy.

Yes she’s over her cold but the trouble I have is now they’ve run out!
I’m really hoping it’ll be back in next week. The receptionist sounded pretty doubtful.

It sheds for 28 days...boost her system naturally and get some elderberry in case of flu!

My 2yr old has her flu spray at the pharmacy last week as the wait to get it at the GPs was endless.
