So worried about possible underlying health issues

My DD2 is 10 weeks old and after her 6 week check has been referred to paediatrics due to several small issues. She has silent reflux, cmpi, possible glue ear and a slight squint in her right eye. The health visitor also noted she still has head lag and a mildly protruding forehead. I’m worried sick - I don’t see how there can’t be some more serious underlying issue with all these other problems. I suppose I’m hoping someone can give me a similar story with a positive outcome.

I can see how this would be worrying but doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong. I remember totally panicking when my DS was a similar age. He had silent reflux, but also head lag at 6 week check as well as single palmar creases, a small dimple in his back and a tongue tie. I'm sure there were other things that I can't remember now but I was convinced he had some genetic condition. He's now 12 and healthy.

(Short version of a long story) At 6 weeks ds2 was admitted to hospital with a silver nitrate burn following treatment of an umbilical granuloma. They noticed "issues" with his skull, then problems with the firmation of his digestive tract, then when a scan discounted these they noticed a kidney abnormality.
At 7 weeks he was under a neurosurgeon, a urologist, had a referral to the plastic surgeon and a geneticist. And a full schedule of mri/ct/ultrasound scans. It was a very dark time.

He was fine. Totally fine. Just a random collection of traits at the extreme end of the normal range.

The reality is that there may something underlying with your dd, that's why they are checking. But they check a lot of babies, just to be sure. And lots of the time the end result is "all fine and off you go". I would advise you to not worry until they tell you there's a problem. I "lost" 4 months of ds2's babyhood in upset and worry and I regret that now.

Thanks for your reply BarbarianMum. What a horrible time for you, but so glad it had a happy ending. I know exactly what you mean about losing time with your baby. Instead of enjoying my baby girl, I’m constantly worrying and crying. Everytime I look at her, I feel so sad. xx
