Hi everyone
Does anyone have any experience of their baby being kissed by someone who has a coldsore?
Is it only dangerous if they are kissed on a membrane ie mouth or eyes? Is it most dangerous when they are are really young?
Asking as my 8?week baby was kissed on neck and head by someone who I think has a cold sore. Thanks in advance!

It’s hard not to worry when that happens I can’t say if had experience with it but I never let anyone kiss my child when they were a baby as you just don’t know if you have concerns speak to Hv or doctor and get reassurance even if they don’t have a cold sore they could stlll carry the virus that’s why there’s been more awareness regarding kissing new horns

Anyone half decent would not go anywhere near a baby if they had a cold sore or suffer from them just in case. 😊

It’s only a problem if they have an active cold sore at the time. Also, the virus gets in through little weaknesses in the thin skin around the lips, so I’d have thought your baby would be fine if the contact was with their neck and head. I’ve never heard of someone with a cold sore there!

If baby starts to get fluey symptoms or a cold sore then head straight to GP and tell them your concerns. Make sure you don’t let the person concerned have another opportunity though!
